Would you back a General strike?

C
Just get on with it
Were in a once in a Hundred year pandemic

Because I will vote for what I believe in from now
Which is fine, I have a certain admiration for those that feel they can vote for what they believe in.
For me no party represents my ideal view of everything. So I try and vote for what I think is nearest to whats best for my family and what is best for those less fortunate than myself. That for me is doing my best to replace years and years of Tory government. The only way I see that happening is a centre left party that is electAble.
Until we get that then prepare for a stream of tory wins and tory governments.
That for me is the worst possible outcome, that will do the most damage to those most in need of a better more caring government.
I’m 58 for all my adult life, the Blair years apart, I’ve lived under conservative government. I’d like different for my children, that meansca Labour party that can win elections.

Not right now if everyone doesn't mind
I've worked all the way through this Pandemic at Uni hall of residence mixing with the unwashed, Covid super spreading first year partying Students( I love them all really) I even managed to get through the last year without catching it from them somehow, considering we had over 500 out of 700 isolating at one point it was quite and achievement..
The problem with a strike now is purely selfish as 'I've been put on part time furlough and get 6 days off every other week and I'm kind of enjoying it a bit.
Come June when I think I'll be back full time I'm with you all on the strike action.

The nurses should get a better deal than what has been offered no doubt. If there was an independent review then the government should move hell and high water to find the money to meet the recommendations. My goddaughter is a young ICU nurse and i know what she has gone through the past 12mths. Governments waste money regulary. Look at the £6b of public money wasted on the house of commons renovation, they could have moved to a purpose built building for £10-20m. IMO MPs should be paid the average UK salary plus expenses and shouldnt be allowed to do other jobs. Its interesting that Starmer said he would give the nurses more but i believe has said he wouldnt raise taxes. Seems to have come up short more often than not with ideas since hes been in opposition. That said i still think he will be elected in three years time. This government has made too many mistakes imo and the lack of openess and accountability is woeful. Having said all that i would still oppose a GS as it would damage the economy when we can least afford to do so.

Nothing has been offered to the nurses yet, the government is still waiting for the recommendations of the independent pay review body.

To the original question, depends what the general strike was for.

If the Trade Unions called a General Strike in Solidarity with the Unions representing the Nurses over their derisory offer would you

A/ Strike yourself

B/ Support the Strike

C/ Oppose the Strike

D/ Not give two fucks, its Friday and I am on the piss.

The French General Strike of 1968 almost brought down the Government but did result in huge social change.
Not sure I’d fall into any of those four camps, tbh. I think the pay offer is absolutely derisory and needs to be improved, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable with NHS staff striking during a pandemic either.
