Never ,ever,would i think it is right to bring up my kids to believe that if they did wrong (as all kids do ,or try to do) that they will spend eternity in hell for it.
That is a fcked up way of raising kids.

You have a warped view of what they actually teach you.

I do not remember being told you will go to hell if you do something wrong - in fact i used to go to confession and be absolved of sin.

I did get brought up in a religion that taught me not to steal, to treat one as you would like to be treated, not to lie, to be meek and humble, to consider those more unfortunate than me etc etc.

Now you can say you will teach your kids that but you cant be at school with them or with them all the time. Also, if it were that easy Santa would never been invented in order to try and get kids to behave or they wont get presents. Its a similar thing.

Kids are brought up with whats right and wrong, and the framework helps. I dont believe all the walking and water nonsense but it is a way of teaching.

How would you teach your kids right and wrong - you would use storys, examples, fables etc etc - its the same.

Correct you don't NEED religion. It helps in my opinion, as you can't be with your kids all the time and you cant teach them everything otherwise you wouldnt send them to school at all would you

Not for my kids ,thank you.
They will treat others as they would want to be treated by others,the common good principle,that has made us what we are.

Where did i say they "Need" a make believe godfather - I said in my view it helps.

And I would never tell you how to bring up your kids. I think religion serves a purpose and helps instill decent values. Now I would never say religion should be relied on doing this in isolation - it needs to be backed up in every day life and parenting. You say your kids will be brought up treating people the way they want to be treated, great, thats the ideal. I was brought up a catholic and that was one of the main messages. I jsut think it helps sit along side parenting and helps reinforce those values. I'm not saying you need to chant in the name of god, never drink or swear, just the actual framework and values I think can assist bringing children up the right way. Not in isolation.

I would never tell you that you need religion as I dont think you do, you can do whatever you want.

And the make believe thing, its just stories, like the boy who cried wolf, I reckon a lot of parents will use that, its just a story/fable like many in the bible with a message.

If it was proven that God doesn't exist then I'd stop taking drugs and listening to music to be honest!
