I'd save them. But....

I'd insist they trimmed the wage bill and brought in some cash from player sales. They could bring in kids & lower league players to replace Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra , Fletcher etc.

I'd also double the price of tickets and when it was clear they could only half-fill the swamp on a good day, I'd sell it and build a much smaller Reebok-type stadium on the site of the resulting retail park.

I'd make sure they just had enough decent players to teeter on the edge of relegation for a few seasons then sell the better ones and let them go down to the Championship. I'd repeat the same process until they went down to League 1 three seasons later and into League 2 after a similar period.

Given that revenge is a dish served cold I feel this is the most elegant way of inflicting a long slow lingering demise. It's the solution that will keep giving for several years.
