Would You Wear Anything City? (English City Fans)

The textile company which handles the dyeing & 'finishing' for the tartan is a Client of mine. I bumped into the MD a couple of months ago in our local town and he was telling me the story about this.

He knows that I'm a big City fan and he asked me (quote) "Does the name Bobby Johnstone mean anything to you ?". I then regaled him with stories of how Bobby was my boyhood hero, and that he should get his hands on the biography (Passing of an Age) etc etc. Poor guy couldn't get away.

Anyway, I think it's a lovely looking tartan and I'm buying the scarf - not suitable for the match IMO, but eminently suitable for casual winter wear.

I'd generally have no problems wearing anything City related but I draw the line at tartan because I find the vast majority of Scottish people appear to despise the English and everything they stand for. It bothers me even more because it doesn't seem to be returned from us. I think Scotland is a beautiful Country and their people are incredibly passionate Football Fans - but they let themselves down with deeply unacceptable xenophobia.

Pubs in Scotland are full of people cheering on Argentina, Brazil or Germany against England.

So beautiful, that we spent many centuries stealing it for ourselves. I think a little bit of xenophobia is warranted, don't you? At least they're not bombing us.

All we can throw at them is Buckfast. And again, it's the English throwing it at them that's part of the problem.

They have to become part of us because they can't afford to go it alone. If they want to then rebuild Hadrians Walls and keep the cunts out. If it prevents Rangers "enjoying" themselves in Manchester again or Celtic fans kicking off at our place then it's a positive thing.

To be fair to the Glaswegians, the kids from towns surrounding Greater Manchester didn't treat the city centre with any more respect this summer. And they weren't out drinking all day beforehand nor justifiably rather pissed off by the manner of which Rangers' defeat was hidden from their view. I've been angry when pissed and my team has lost, I can understand it, although I don't condone it.

It was the scale of the crowds and the willingness of the booze sellers in town to ply them with so much alcohol that they couldn't lift their heads out of their own vomit that was the main problem on that particular day. Not all Glaswegians in the city were causing trouble, there were 200,000+ of them, if they'd all been at it the city centre would have looked like a bomb site, not one of the toilets out the back of the Kippax. I've worked in a town centre bar that was left in worse condition than that every single week its infamous weekly Tuesday night £1 a drink bar has closed. Very drunk people tend to do very silly things.

What excuse did our local teenagers/scallies have? "Yerv gotta do sumfin ant yoh"

My patriotism ebbs and flows depending on the number of Rag players crowbarred into the national team but I do like the tartan scarf. The kilt? Gotta be convinced that mid-Jan it'd keep me warm on CBL3. But I do like the natty little black jackets. And what about a glengarry with sky blue and white trim. Those Scottish fans in Alicante t'other night looked the dogs b's but a red and white glengarry? Surprised any Scots'd wear red n' white.

Not really no. Ive heard a certain bunch horned helmeted marauders did some raping and pillaging of Great Britain a while back. I have found it in my heart to forgive them.

The scarf looks great but it doesn't seem to be on the product list. I have neither the legs nor the tackle for a kilt!

As for the xenophobia thing, I've been to Scotland dozens of times and never encountered any hostility. I'm not saying it doesn't exist but some English visitors don't exactly go out of their way to be friendly either.
