Wrexham thread

My best mate from university is a big Wrexham fan and I've watched them quite a bit down the years when not attending City matches. They were doing quite nicely in the third tier for most of the 1990s but in the 2000s were bought up by assets stripper who wanted to sell the ground and walk away with the profit. The team was starved of funds and ended up in non-league, where they became mired for ages, suffering several agonising play-off defeats.

I'm really happy for them that they're back in the league. They have a great capacity to generate commercial income at the moment and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they're clinching promotion back to League One this time next year.

Several clubs have suffered from asset strippers. Brighton lost the Goldstone that way, Bury, Luton etc etc.
Do they all buy the clubs with deceptive words? Does the EFL exercise any control over this?
It could be controlled by a system of golden shares held by supporters trusts or the FA.
Seems to me a lot of people have been asleep on the job.

They could have bought any club and they would have gone up. Just so happens to be Wrexham who were lucky to be chosen. Just like Salford money buys success.Ben Foster is not a non league player so why would he be there? I’ve got no interest in this media frenzy for them and their Hollywood owners
This criticism sounds oddly familiar…

You could be Redshirt fan taking about us in 2010:
They could have bought any club and they would have been successful. Just so happens to be City who were lucky to be chosen. Just like Cheslea money buys success. Yaya Touré is not a Europa League player so why would he be there? I’ve got no interest in this media frenzy for them and their Oil Money owners

Every single successful club in football history has had big backers behind them. From Arsenal’s dodgy bribery scandal owners and their success that followed, to both Liverpool clubs and the Moores family and their success that followed, to United being saved from going bust twice and then having success…

Rectum have struck rich and fair play to them. Their owners and boardroom as well as management team and players will have worked day-after-day for this success and well done to them.

No doubt, just like HRH did in City, they saw the potential in Wrexham.

So these yanks are alright then?

Fuck off Hollywood.
The jury is still out but they seem to be doing things right.

They’re not saddling Wrexham with debt, they’re not dictating transfers or team sheets, and they’re engaging constantly with the fan base.

Most Yank owners of teams higher up tend to follow the same unfortunate formula, one that doesn’t work very well and is an affront to our sensibilities. It’s the opposite to what this lot have done so far though, so let’s see. It’s not a race thing
