Yes when it is written down like that it is very disappointing to say the least. One of the most disappointing performances of the year. Summed up by 4 moments -
Coombs, with zero pressure on, passing back at an ideal pace for them to score
Roebuck wandering outside her box holding the ball unaware of where she was.
Taylor making a sub 7 mins into injury time (usually done to waste time from a winning position)
A fullback attempting a back pass from inside the Liverpool half booting it straight out for a corner.
This ladies and gentlemen is football Gareth Taylor style.
Sadly Dave today was a game where for 85 mins the players did not put in the effort. I can't ever recall that from a City team. They looked leggy & lost just waiting for a moment of Hemp quality or a Shaw goal. Greenwood, Houghton, Coombs and Kelly were non- existent at times.I think the rebuild in terms of personnel hasn't been all that poor. I think losing the three we did wasn't the hole that I expected. Yui has done a remarkably good job in replacing Keira. Caroline Weir, apart from the games against the Ragettes always made me feel she was thinking of shipping out, and Bunny Shaw has provided goals we didn't get from Georgia, despite being club top scorer. All in all the team, on paper, seems as good as we had. Not as good, perhaps, when we had Izzy, Scotty and Toni D in the team. I haven't seen any footage of today's game but suspect it wasn't a lack of effort that did for us, more a decision or two at the wrong time, and the guy in the technical area. He never seems to be getting anything like the best out of the squad.
Exactly. And this is the risk that our best players leave. This is the kind of Keystone Cops football we used to see from a lot of women's teams which, over the years, have added an athleticism to their game which makes them difficult to break down, much like we saw yesterday with the men. But we have pace in our team, we have players with technique and we are seeing a game plan that makes it easy for humdrum, athletic sides to frustrate and get the better of us. This is the sort of result that loses us the likes of Hemp and Kelly.
I've often sat in the Academy stadium and thought after about an hour, even when we are leading by a couple, that we need to freshen up in a couple of positions, and twenty-five minutes later, with minutes left he shoves on one of the subs. I can never understand what a manager thinks a player, barely warmed up, is gonna bring to a game whether we are ahead or chasing it, as was the case today. We beat Reading last week at home 3-1 and Villa have battered 'em today at Reading 5-0. That, I think sums up our season in just a couple of games.Sadly Dave today was a game where for 85 mins the players did not put in the effort. I can't ever recall that from a City team. I've always said that we have a decent group of players but the way that they have been managed both in terms of tactically and ensuring rest at the right times has been shocking. Taylor must know he's in trouble now Nielsen is in charge and that was reflected by effort and intensity today - it was one of the worst games I've ever seen from us. It was that bad. He should have no complaints the way he has managed the squad at times has been very poor.
He did it in the past with Lavelle, Beckie and now Raso, Fowler & Blakstad - not making many changes to what he perceives his best team and when he does it's for a few minute cameos. He is clueless how to manage a squad and because of that some looked knackered today - contrast how Pep manages players so at the most important moments they are ready.
I suspect if Taylor stays most of our out of contract players will want out. I also expect Lauren and maybe even Shaw thinking it's time for a change. However, now we have a good director of football hopefully they will make the call to not renew Taylor and then look after the whole squad rather than a few favourites.
Very famous coach once said the key to winning games is PREPARATION AND APPLICATION...we seem to be lacking both100% it's not as if we are being beaten by a team of better quality it's all about preparation and intensity.
