Wydad AC (N) | CWC | Post Match Thread

Started brightly and fell away which is understandable given the circumstances. Hot day, very sticky pitch and an early start probably not conducive to seeing our best.

Loved the look of Reijnders, I’ll look forward to seeing Cherki in his rightful position rather than false nine and good to see Phil with a bounce in his step.

Worth pointing out that Pep has his hands full managing this 27 man squad - we were more than decent and it could be argued that of those that started maybe 4 would be in a ‘strongest 11.’

Think we will see a much changed team in the next two before we get down to the serious business of the knockouts hopefully.

Bodes well.

players do seem they would rather be on holiday and to be fair they should be.

ho much this tourney will fuck up our fitness later on in the new season is risk sadly.

extreme heat, noon and 3pm starts, 50/70% empty stadiums. despite the hype from Infantino and probably ticket pricing this is nowhere near as good as some US friendly tours we had in the past.

Al Ain deffo wont have as many fans there as Wydad had, so it could be even worse.

in terms of play I saw nothing tactically that was a change, want us moving the ball quicker, but also proper help from midfield, wingers to defence, this can be done by proper pressing and tracking back which will be hard to force some attacking players but they have no other choice.
teams just running through our midfield need to stop.

for the new ones, Reijnders looked ok, can see him picking up what Pep wants him, Cherki well lot to improve, off the ball especially, but also lost some balls and his body language is a bit off, I want him to be more aggressive, especially once he just gives away the ball. hopefully by August he goes through serious fitness regime.
Ait Nouri didnt play, OReilly tho was pretty much inverted LB all game which I would expect not be the case for Ait Nouri.

wonder how CBs will be rotated, we have too many now.

Shit pitch, absolutely shit ref.

Not much learned apart from Reijnders looks proper decent and what the absolute fuck is significant player in the match? Oh and the World Cup next year is going to be grim watching for much of it.

This thread is a reminder of a conversation I had with a mate a few weeks ago.

He asked me if I ever get bothered about some of the awful shite opposition fans say about us online.

I told him it's never really bothered me, as it pales in comparison to what some of the cunts who supposedly support us come out with.

Rico played the ball, opponent was late.

Just a collision with an unlucky outcome for the Wydad player.

What if Rico got injured by that collision, red for both??

Ref was piss poor from start to finish.

Feel a bit sorry for Lewis, but don’t think he’s good enough so him missing doesn’t worry me, thought the one in the groin from them was equally a red.
Good to see Rodders play a few minutes even though he gave it away a few times.
Gundogan slows us too much and think Savinho is poor, the big man’s form is a bit of a worry but early days.
Other than that I’m happy enough with that.

If no intent it requires dangerous play though and that wasn't dangerous play.

Decission was a joke
Raising your foot off the ground is dangerous play.

If you slide tackle and have your other foot raised as protection then clubber the opponents knees incidentally . It'd be deemed a red card. Its no different here

Has it been confirmed what these pitches are? At times it looked like 1990s boundary park/kenilworth road. They all have.

Peanut head sumers and Obi Mikel utter cunts, the Newcastle chap seems alright.

Agenda driven bollocks as per. At least given pointed on the castration challenge on Marmoush. We are the reigning World Champions and it would be nice to defend the title and earn £100M for our troubles. Get that a lot see this as a pointless pre season, but Community Shields don't necessarily mean much on their own, more the way you qualify for it. The European Super Cup is different again as it is a major European honour. We go far in this, we start feeling the love a bit more.

Reijnders ran the midfield, thought he'd be plugging gaps but was considerably more attack minded. Phil played very well with a goal and assist, Reis and Nat decent though we still needed Eddie to bail us out a few times. Cherki started off well but drifted out of the game, his conditioning will improve. Finally the on pitch reporter Alex was encouraging and enthusiastic, everything that all other media are not. Onwards and upwards City.
