I think you'll find it's the government and not the supermarkets who are doing the 'ripping off'...

Sure. And Tescos make very little profit as a company. Regardless of tax (we pay 17%) compare the 24 can I can buy, against the 20 cans Bob buys.

Pretty sure supermarkets sell the 24 cans etc at a loss as it gets you in the shop

I've never had or used an electric toothbrush but I assume that the cleaning head rotates to and fro, as opposed to spinning in one direction. If it was the latter, then if it was used for what you're suggesting JOTS, only a lady who is clean shaven could used it because the clocksprings would get tangled up and burn out the motor.
