Yaya 'lightening' Toure

At the end of the day raw sprinting speed means fuck all. If thats all that mattered we may as well get Usain Bolt etc playing. Control of the ball when moving at full tilt is the most important part. And imo I have not seen to many lads better when going at full tilt at keeping the ball under control than Yaya.

Imo Sylvain Distin, still one of the quickest now, but in his day I would say right up there in the top 3.

Yaya is deceptively quick, just doesn`t look it at times because of his size and lumbering style.

Yaya is better than Essien. Essien has been playing in the premier league longer and dominated in midfield, maybe that's why some people still favor him over Yaya, who'se just been here a couple of months. Yaya is one of the most complete midfielders around. He can play at CB, CDM, CAM and probably even as a ST. And the big man DOMINATES in every position he plays in. He played CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL against Manchester United as CB, won the league and national cup with Barcelona as a CDM and is now tearing it up in the premier league as a CAM. And you know what? After having watched Yaya since his first day when coming to Barca (I've missed maybe only 4 or 5 Barca matches in the last 3 years or so), I can tell that Yaya isn't even playing 100% to his capabilities. There's more to come, and that's frightening (for the opposition). A commentator once described Yaya as: "He's like Messi with a touch of giraffe". So true. Though I would substitute giraffe for a T-rex.

Some Yaya highlights for everyone to enjoy:

This is one of his best goals ever scored:

How's this for a goal?

I would say Yaya has a sublime range of passing that Essien can't match. Silde-rule passes, chipped through balls, switching of play, neat and tidy one touch. He can do it all.

The control he has when running with the ball is incredible considering how fast he is running and how powerful he is when going full tilt.

He's has an awesome shot and we're yet to see he but he is good in the air.

Essien is better defensively but is also highly over-rated. If Essien is going to be compared to anybody in our team then it has to be Nige and I believe Big Nige is a much more effective when it comes to that anchor man role.

I love "The flying wardrobe" when he gets going

Id compare him more to Jonah Lomu than Aaron Lennon though. Sheer pace and power rather than nimble speed.

For someone who has been watching both players for way longer than their short careers in the Premier League, I can tell anyone who is willing to listen that Yaya has always been the better footballer. And I don't say this as a City fan. This has been my contention for 6 years. Since the 2004 African Nations Cup.

He is slighly older now and has gained some weight. But even now, you can still see that wierd dribble where he doesn't do anything but push the ball into the most uncomfortable area for the defender and keep it under deft control. And his vision is way better than Essien's. His ball control, touch pass and shooting ability are all way better.

He is and has always been a technically superior player to Essien. The only area where Essien is better is his defensive force and hustle. As much as people don't realize it, Yaya has never been a brut like Essien. Hell he did not play DM for anyone but Barca, hence why I used to always laff at the idea that he was a DM. The English press is so insular sometimes.

For Cote D'voire, Donesk, Olympiakos and Monaco he played as an AM or a box to box CM. The only stop in his career where he played predominantly as a DM was at Barca. I find myseld always trying to clarify the misconception that he was a DM. Apparently even his teammates tot he was :?

Besides playing DM at Barca is not really like playing DM anywhere else. Barca's DMs are often just extremely skilled midfielders who just aren't good enough to oust Xavi or Iniesta. Frankly I'd take Busquet over 95% of the CM's in the Premiership.

Anyway, I have always rated Yaya the better of the 2. Just always brought more to the table. Especially when you watch them play for their respective countries.

will chant his name YAYA, YAYA, score for us on arsenal game and am sure he will speed up more and score definitely goal...so come on guys lets give him support.

I think hes the quickest player in the prem when he starts too shift.

Also i havent seen a player who is able too run straight down the middle of the pitch skinning a full side and not do a single trick. He just runs in a straight line its very bizare.

Considering Walcott would be near a medal in an Olympic 100M final i very much doubt it
