Yaya Toure - 2016/17 performances

In games like today where he can dominate the ball I think he will be a useful player next season.

I am still not convinced I would want him starting a big game Champions League tie, but against a bottom half team Yaya will give us a very good option.

Brilliant. Visionary. One of the best midfielders the Prem has ever seen. One of the best midfielders the world has ever seen.

If we can't find a place for him in our squad next season, I want to see the fucker who replaces what he has brought to the team this season!

Early this season, when he was fat and his agent was being a d!ck, I thought he was turning into more trouble than he was worth. Since he came back into the team, he has proved he has deserved to be in it on all but the most severe of tests, and even then he brings us something we just don't get from anyone else. He makes other players better, he finds the spaces to play, he can play a pass that virtually no one else, except maybe Silva, can play, and when he is played alongside someone who will pick up the 10% he might have lost over his prime, he is still world class. And, don't get me started on his play when we are pressing and he sits 25-30 yards outside the opposition box and he dictates the game by shuffling 5-10 yards right and left.

Yaya has played ridiculously well since returning this season. If he can keep his weight down, come back from the summer in pretty decent shape, and work as hard as he has this season, he is an invaluable squad member who will cost tens and tens of millions to replace. And, lastly, if Pogba 2017 is worth £100M, then Yaya 2017 has been the £150M man!

They'll be plenty of games like today next season and for that reason we'd be daft not to renew his contract (obviously if he'll accept a lower wage). There's space in the squad for a squad player like him next season.

Great analysis.

Two years younger than Carrick and twice the player.
If he's given another year I won't argue.

Wow £150 million man. If he does leave them every team in the World will be battling to sign a £150 million man for free.

More a comment about comparing performances of the old man and the £100M young buck. £100M was stupid money in the first place, but if his performances rate that fee, then Yaya has been a £150M man this season....and I might even be underselling him at that price!

I loved to see him celebrate Vinnie's goal. Climbed right onto his back. I was thinking ffs don't injure him. I have rarely seen Yaya's demenor so positive. He seems to be really enjoying his football and being at the club. Even at his peak he could be a mardy bugger but I haven't seen any of that since he returned. Really hope he stays for another year.

Tbh, if his wages were affordable that's probably not far wrong after this season.

Last season we would have struggled to give him away whilst paying his wages.

I suppose the answer will come in the Summer. If he leaves it means City do not consider him a 150 million pound footballer. If the world's top clubs are queuing to sign him then Chicago guy has a point.
Personally I will be surprised if guardiola sees him as a viable defensive midfielder for his vision of the future.
