Yaya Toure - 2016/17 performances

Nice post. This theory will be significantly tested against Spuds who to my mind have the most in form midfield in the PL just now. Will be fascinating to watch. Dembele,Dyer,Wanyama, Eriksen and Dele Alli are impressive this season. If we beat them in midfield we will really be starting to motor.
I'd like to see us sacrifice Silva or KDB in that game and throw Garcia in to back Nando and Yaya up to be honest.

Yaya Touré's attitude and performances have impressed Pep Guardiola so much he is being considered for a new contract. [Sunday Times]

Guardiola on the 'old guard' of Yaya, Zabaleta, Kolarov and Sagna: "They deserve to play and maybe will deserve to extend their contracts."
@Ric you just lost half your subscribers to suicide.

100% correcto. Yaya is & has been unique in world football in his generation. Gundo still has it all to do in the Premier.

The way I see it is we wouldn't have beaten Barcelona this season with Yaya instead of Gundogan, not just because of his goals but the movement, passing and sheer work rate.

And ball watching again for the third.

If he gets another contract the same results will be happening away at Liverpool, Everton, Spurs . Etc.

No country for old men.

If we give new contracts to any of the old players then its really crazy... Need to clearout big time now and kick on building new team.

He can definitely do a job this season, but we need to be careful not to jump into giving him a contract. Props for getting in shape & working hard for the team, but would be fools to give him a new contract, we need a change.

Can't hold the midfield on his own. Can't understand why zaba was given more lisence to roam personally when YAYA is more dangerous (in the first half).

People may want to blame him for the 2 goals , but reality is, there is a whole defense, and keeper (possibly the other holding midfielder) who should try cleans up the mess, they didn't , so are equally, if not more to blame.

Not the main cause of our problems, but not the answer for more than maximum of 12-18months

Close your eyes and pretend it didn't just happen. How many times has history got to repeat itself to realise that we need younger, fitter players who can track runners and close down with intensity. Being a good passer of the ball is no longer enough with the evolution of the high pressing tactics we are now seeing.

Correcto. Yaya is still unique. Still the only midfielder incapable of tracking midfield runners. Unique at ball watching.

Looked like 40yr old jogging round a mud filled Hough end

Had far too much defensive responsibility today.

He's a lot fitter than last season but still if he has to track players too often, the result will be the same.

Definitely. Shame really, he was exposed on the afternoon but part of that obviously stems from having little depth in the midfield & his responsibilities defensively were clearly too much

With De Bruyne's drop in goalscoring form, Touré is our 2nd best goal threat (assuming Nolito continues to be ignored). He needs to get forward more, which is why I think the Touré-Fernando pairing worked so well.

Yaya is 3yrs past his peak. Same goes for Aguero, Silva, Zabba and VK. Why are they still here???????? Far far too much sentimentality going on from the bleeding hearts and luvvies on here. They are all City greats. But time moves on and we just got smashed 4-0 by Everton with most of the above playing. That says it all. They're no longer even close to being good enough.

When Liverpool were dominant they routinely dispatched players who though past there best went to other 1st division clubs. It meant they never had an ageing team. We got a couple Steve McMahon was one.
I agree sentiment cannot come into it.
