Yaya Toure apologises for accusing Guardiola of ‘having problems with Africans’

Fair play for bothering, this will have been forgotten by all but those involved and the City fans. When you be an absolute twat there's generally a limited amount of time to apologise before it becomes too long and you stick with the comments/feud for life so to come out and apologise now after this long deserves some credit even if it should never have happened and after it did, should have been done a lot sooner. I imagine Pep will take the apology say there's no issue and move on but he won't be doing anything City related whilst Pep is here. I choose to let his off field antics slide, and remember what a phenomenal player he was on the pitch for us. He dragged us to the title and through many many big games like no other player has done in the sheikh era.

I'd say if you read the entire thread the majority of people are more in agreement than not.
Little bit ironic to talk about tarnishing legacies when there is a separate thread on the joy and importance of beating the Rags at Wembley. His legacy was on the pitch for goodness sake.
Fans saying "great player" but getting so worked up about his off field "misdemeanors" should look at parallels slagging City off.....great team but sport washing etc.
Honestly, perhaps I've been wasting my money for the last nearly 50 years because I've been actually going to see what the players are doing on the pitch. What I should have been doing is cheering on the strength of their moral integrity rather than the goals, passes and tackles.
Only my view but I find it perfectly easy to say fantastic and loyal player (some would argue the best all round on a par with King Colin) who said some stupid things and the insults at Pep especially left a very sour taste but it doesn't tarnish his football achievements.
What it does do is tarnish the all round affection we might have for him compared with David, Vincent, Kun, Zabba who all seem to be decent, unassuming human beings deserving of our love not just for their footballing achievements but their loyalty and personalities.
It's affection not legacy

The majority of people have fucked up and to own it is admirable. But to brand someone a racist is a slur that can have lifelong consequences, you can't un say it. He is a high profile manager and these comments are reported globally. The fact that it has taken him years to acknowledge what he said and to apologise doesn't alter what he said. He has not come out and said that Pep is not a racist. I'm sure that the club will acknowledge his apology but in some people's minds it changes nothing.
I have to agree with you there , some credit to Yaya but it’s a terrible thing to accuse someone of unless you have irrefutable evidence, which he didn’t, it may be an apology of sorts, but it lacks the substance and clarity ( I won’t say sincerity because it does come across as sincere) , I want to think it’s just badly worded, but I can’t imagine he penned that all by himself, whatever it is , it needed to be a full and frank apology, and it isn’t .

Fuck off , you are not getting a statue and your legacy is ruined
It really really isn’t!

You only have to hear it when we still sing his songs at games (when we’re allowed in) to show that barely anyone apart from a few sensitive souls on the internet think that.

Yaya Touré is the greatest player we’ve had since the takeover. Nothing he’s said takes away or diminishes the memories of his greatest moments. His performance against United is still the best individual performance I’ve seen from a player nearly 9 years later.

Not quite sure why my post elicited your response as I was only pointing out that most people who posted in the thread were of a like mind with Kaz's post.

But seeing as you had your say, I'll have mine.

A legend is a full package, unfortunately, Yaya was not one. Fantastic player and genuine world-class for 3 seasons, shame he couldn't keep his mouth closed.

You can't be a legend whilst besmirching the club in the press, we all lambast him for the cakegate incident but saying the club stopped him seeing, no forbid him from seeing his dying brother was far worse and then to top it all off with the Pep is a racist shit and how do you crown this player a legend.

Nobody said he wasn't a good player, we are talking about being a legend, that comes from both on and off the pitch, so your silly cheering on integrity comment is just that, silly and unwarranted.

Yaya isn't fit to lick Bell's boots though.
