Re: Yaya Toure
Well said Stuart Brennan
======================
The silence from Yaya Toure is starting to become deafening.
And, while we at MEN Sport last week reasoned that the City midfielder needs time and space to work through the anguish of his brother’s death, as well as recover from the rigours of a tough season and draining World Cup campaign, perhaps he needs to act now.
There had been a rising tide of anger among City fans in May, as Yaya’s hints that he wanted to leave, amid the farcical suggestion he was upset at the club’s failure to properly acknowledge his birthday, gave a sour tinge to the sweetness of the title triumph.
That gave way to sympathy and a degree of understanding when the Ivorian’s brother Ibrahim died of cancer while he was away with the national team in Brazil.
But Toure again risked the wrath of supporters by claiming he had been refused permission to dodge the post-season trip to Abu Dhabi in order to be with his brother, which City insiders emphatically deny to be the case.
Still, the lad has clearly been through the emotional wringer, and his outbursts may simply be down to the irrational anger which causes many of us to lash out in bereavement.
Yaya said in May that he would put out a statement about his future after the World Cup, which we presumed meant after Ivory Coast were out - and they were eliminated 15 days ago.
Now another story has popped up, this time in the French press, where an unnamed Ivory Coast player is alleged to have told a journalist that Yaya has said he will not return to pre-season training with City.
The truth of that will become evident in just over a fortnight, when Toure is expected to link up with the squad on the Kansas leg of their US tour.
It is to be hoped that by then Yaya will have had time to ease his personal pain, and think more clearly about his professional future.
After the Carlos Tevez saga, City are in no mood to be messed about by a maverick player - and if Yaya is insistent he wants to leave, it will only happen on their terms, and if a replacement can be found
