Lot of talk about this player, it seem's that hes not really wanting to move.

But do we want him? I dont think hes going to change what we have now average at best imo*

Whenever I've seen Yaya play at Barca it's been in the holding role, not as this Vieira like player a lot of posters on here seem to think he is. However, at Olympiakos and Monaco he was much more like Vieira and if we could get that player then great. We should be looking at box-to-box midfielders like Yaya and Martinez and creative playmakers in my opinion.

Anyway, the OP's quite correct. I haven't seen much of him in La Liga this season (any time I watched Barca, he didn't feature), but in previous CL campaigns and ACON tournaments he's given the ball away a scandalous amount.

He's neither an astute passer nor a particularly good defensive presence (though he was very good at centreback in the season-before-last's CL final), and nor does he seem to have to pace or inclination to do the fabled 'box to box' role.

It fucking amazes me how his agent seems to tout him as some sort of global superstar.

Yeah he is someone I'd like to see us have a go at capturing, I said about him on another thread a few weeks ago. Very talented header of the ball, strong and tall at about 6ft 3inches for a midfielder!

I have to say, along with Ibra/Torres/Gerrard, Yaya would be one of my main targets. He was a key part of Barca's triumphs last season, and even this season, when he has played he has never let them down.

In terms of what he's good at, he's IMO, the nearest thing in the world to Viera in his prime.

Happy to concur with you Billy. Yaya is the total midfield player as Vieira was in his prime. I think he may well be better suited to the Premier as well.

I'd go for him and Martinez. Then we would have that midfield sorted. With those two there I reckon it could create quite a platform for Stephen Ireland if he is still with us.
