Yaya Toure [Merged]

Re: Yaya has signed for a prem club

Yaya Toure or Michael Johnson?

The former has been one of the best midfielders in the world for the past 5 years, on CL and La Liga medals. The latter played well for 2 or 3 months.

Toure is better than any of our midfielders without a shadow of a doubt. Play him with Barry and a quality midfielder who has a bit of pace and creativity (e.g. Hamsik or Krasic) and we have a PL winning midfield.

One of the big advantages of signing Toure would be that we could play 442 comfortably.

I understand that his reputation for being a box to box midfielder could add to the overall team but at what cost. The players that would have to be dropped from a regular start will not stay at the club.

Now I have slagged him in the past for his alleged activities off the field but isnt MJ our box to box midfielder?

Would the signing mean that MJ is no longer required at the club considering how far down the pecking order he is already. Not to mention Superman. What happens if he starts playing like he did the season before last?

Is any problems we may have if we drop Kolo (we know its going to ahppen soon) going to have an impact on how Yaya plays?

..................De Jong
...M. Johnson...........Toure
...................Ireland

Re: Yaya has signed for a prem club

people who reguraly start in the midfield won't be left out . remember we have a massive season next year , so the bigger the squad the better especially for europa league . Plus competition in a team always gets the best out of players

Why would his agent not disclose the club? Unless he's trying to play Barca

It seems we're keeping everything under wraps this time around so it may be on our account that he hasn't mentioned the name.

Re: Yaya has signed for a prem club

Some of the comments on here are great.

We shouldn't buy Yaya Toure because we have De Jong and Barry. That's like saying let's not buy Ashley Cole because we have Lescott.

We shouldn't buy Yaya Toure because we have Michael Johnson as our box-to-box midfielder. This is just my opinion but we may need more than one box-to-box midfielder for the first XI, never mind the squad, and relying on one of them to be someone who hasn't played consistently for over 2 years and has only shown a few months of 'potential' would be mental.

Yaya Toure is just what we need for the middle of the park, he'll provide energy, drive and power in the middle, something we missed last season. We'll play Barry or De Jong as the holding midfielder, then have Yaya and another (say M. Johnson) in front of him. That is if we go for 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1. We just need another midfielder and some attacking full backs now.

Re: Yaya has signed for a prem club

It's hysterical that people are moaning about Yaya Toure.

FFS, a few years ago we had Ousmane Dabo in a similar role.

We shouldnt buy Toure because we have Michael Johnson? Is that even a serious statement?!

Re: Yaya has signed for a prem club

Could barry not be classed as box to box or he is more a defensive midfield player . I reckon playin box to box would be good for barry , he has got a great left foot . Let him have a few shots at goal and if they're shit , drop him to the bench ;) simples

He doesn't really have the engine to play box-to-box. Energetic, powerful, driving, these aren't words you'd use to describe Barry are they? He fulfils the holding role excellently for England, so much so Capello was desperate to get him on the plane. He's great defensively, and his ball retention, although he does mainly pass it 5 yards to the left back or left winger, is excellent. He'd be ideal sat behind two driving midfielders like Yaya and say Martinez or Milner. I actually think that's how Capello will use him, just replace Lampard and Gerrard for Martinez and Yaya.
