Yaya Toure over Dzeko and Balotelli.

It may sound stupid,. but in Aguero's absence or if it happens again this season to Tevez and so on with a striker injured etc..

I'd prefer to play with one striker, with Yaya advanced. With NDJ/Milner/Rodwell being the 2 holding men.

Yesterday i was disappointed with Yaya playing so deep, would of preferred Rodwell and NDJ to start in the middle, with Yaya forward.

It's not that i don't rate either Dzeko or Balotelli, i just don't trust Balotelli and Dzeko it just doesn't seem to be working out.

----------Rodwell-----De Jong

-----------------Yaya

--------Nasri-------------Silva

-----------------Tevez

I wanna see that now, when we lose a striker, or depending on who we play. one holding and a winger, like Sinclair. I think we could of beat Liverpool yesterday in the first half if Yaya was further forward, picking up the ball on the halfway line does us no good. Yaya will do more than Balotelli or Dzeko, given he plays advanced.
The only problem I can see with this and the why I think Mancini doesn't use this system is that we don't have a top quality deep lying playmaker. I cant see much being created behind yaya with De jong, Rodwell or Barry. Still a few days left in the window though.

oh dear

Oh dear, Oh dear!

Oh dear, Oh dear, Oh dear !

sorry I just couldn`t resist

But back to OP, Yaya is the maine man and if utilised correctly in that position could be "unplayable" like Fellani was against the scum recently.

Its obvious the effect Yaya has in the advanced role but I think starting him there from the first minute takes away that element of surprise (which makes it so effective) and the fact that the opposition have to re-organise halfway through the game to try and deal with him. It's not guaranteed that he'll always change the game playing in that role even though it happens more often than not, in such a case, how do you change things when he's already playing there and not having the desired effect? Does he then drop back deeper and become less effective? I've seen it said many times here that if it's not broken, don't fix it and I think this is one instance where that saying holds true. We have enough quality attacking players to rely on from the start of games(even in Aguero's absence) knowing that we can always turn to the Yaya option if it really becomes necessary. We have also won plenty of games with Yaya playing in the deeper role and it's not always smart to show your strongest hand from the start.

But one question that still keeps me awake at night.
What do we have to do to get the best out of Mario?

For starters, fans not having unrealistic expectations partly because of his off the pitch high profile and his eccentric character.
At 22, he's still a young player and young players are inconsistent at best whether people want to accept that fact or not. We saw a glimpse of what he can do at the Euros and as long as the manager and coaching staff still believe in him, his dissenters are pissing in the wind. In his most recent game he played well enough after having no pre season so I'm not getting all wound up for the sake of it but lets not veer off topic.

1 striker up front with yaya and nasri/silva as backup? we could score 1 goal, but would it necessarily mean no stupidly conceded one, two or even three goals? no, it's not how we play and it's not how we won the season. it was our balotelli, dzeko, aguero and tevez all up front with the rest of the offensive midfielders that won us the title. we can win it again this year. and yes, all of our strikers are world class.

My word that term world class get banded about a lot on here.

in this instance its use is wrong World Class is the first EP recorded and produced by the LA electro-hop group World Class Wreckin' Cru. It was released in 1985 under the Kru-Cut record label. Songs on the album included "Juice" and "Surgery", which were popular singles on the underground West Coast scene. None of which involved the lovely Edin or Mario but maybe a bit of juice and surgery ( brain) are what we need to get both of them firing on all cylinders

just a observation
