Yaya Toure

Someone like Delph partnering him? Seriously mate can you not see how poor a central mid pairing that is? Look at the best midfields in Europe, even the best midfields in England, that pairing doesn't stack up at all.

Oh so Yaya and Fernandinho does? Or Yaya and Fernando? Or Yaya and Delph?

Yaya has played in 26/30 games I believe and we've been fucking shit all season, excluding the first five games which makes the last 25 stats even worse.

I'm sure you weren't scared by the thought of a Kante & Drinkwater or Dier & anyone else at Spurs at the start of the season and they've worked out pretty well.

The fact is you don't know until you give it a try, too many people on here think they know everything without giving it a chance and yet seem happy to stick with something that is evidently not working anymore.

We're not playing counter attacking football like Leicester so can't get away with just two grafters in mid, we need a bit of guile, a bit of craft. That said I've been pleasantly surprised by Kante's overall ability.

Spurs is a better comparison as they play a similar type of game to ours.Dembele has been the difference maker for them this season, he's their Yaya.

I don't think I know everything but I do believe if you want to play a controlled possession game you need players that have a better passing range and vision than our other three centre mids possess.

This is my last post on the Yaya thread until the end of the season.

Your post shows you're happier picking "style over substance" which is this whole debate in a nutshell.

I think we all agree possession football combined with high pressing defensive system is what we want to play long term but as you say we haven't got the central midfielders (excluding Yaya) capable of playing that style right now, although personally I think Fernandinho is more than capable. If you've only got one/two player(s) who are suited to a certain style of football and three others who would be more suited to a different style of football, then you change the style of football short term until you get the players capable of playing the style we all want to see long term. Especially when the one player capable of playing the possession style has such serious physical and defensive limitations that we as a team are being ruthlessly exploited by every single team prepared to stand up to us and not park the bus. Short term I would much rather an "ugly win than a pretty defeat", if that means playing counter attacking football from now till the end of the season, then fucking do it.

A team is about getting the best out of the ALL players at your disposal, not just one. Playing Yaya from the start restricts us to a style our other players aren't capable of or aren't comfortable with and also means Yaya is struggling because he hasn't got the energy or stamina to play to the best of his ability for more than 10-15 minutes at a time but could still be the perfect game changer if we needed it.

Now the season is officially over, I think tonight's game exposed Yaya for everything I said in the post above.

Moving De Bruyne out of the middle to accommodate Yaya is just fucking stupid and anyone who says different is a fucking idiot. Completely ruined the team shape, the energy in terms of pressing and also meant Sergio was completely isolated because nobody was able to get up and make runs beyond him to create space. But it's all good because we have 30 million aimless passes in midfield going nowhere.

By the way, KDB was shite tonight too, first touch and lack of aggression was one of the reasons we were over run
