Yaya Toure

He has been a fantastic player, at his best he looked like the big lad playing in a younger age group. However, he should of been sold last summer, his agent has been a prat and not helped with his popularity amongst city fans.

I won't be surprised if he is much older too ( rule of thumb - add 5 years for Africans if we are skeptical about their official ages )

I often get frustrated by Yaya but let's have a think :

His surging runs
The way in his prime he dominated the midfield
His range of passing
His sheer presence
The number of amazing free kicks he's scored
The amount of times he won the big games

United in the semi
Stoke in the FA cup
Newcastle away in the league
Palace away in the league
United away in the 3-0
Sunderland in the League cup
Liverpool in the league cup winning pen

Forget the gutter press, forget his agent ! Yaya has always said in interviews I want to make history with this club ! He did make history !!

Now then we all talk about King Colin ( I was named after him ) we talk about the famous Bell Lee Summerbee era

The three of them added together did not score more important goals than the big man. In fact Neil Young comes closest.

Young - FA cup Leicester , ECWC Gornik, Newcastle away title big goals

Booth - Everton FA cup semi

Doyle & Pardoe - West Brom League cup

Tueart - League Cup Newcastle

Power - Ipswich FA cup semi
Hutchison - Spurs
Mckenzie - Spurs replay

Morley - Bradford
Dickov - Gillingham
Goater - Gillingham

Kompany - United at home title

Dzeko - QPR title
Aguero - QPR title

Nasri - West Ham title
Kompany West Ham title

There will be more but the fact is that NO SINGLE PLAYER in our entire history has delivered what Yaya Toure has for Manchester City !

A sign of the times that many of us do not acknowledge or appreciate it !

Either little knowledge of our history , short memories, spoilt new fans or just knobheads. It's got to be one of the above.

Club Legend ( maybe the biggest )

Accepted, but there's past and present. There's a huge difference between Toure in his pomp and the current player, and that's the point that has been made repeatedly. I agree with all the points you made about his contribution towards our recent success but the club is bigger than the player.

In my life time (b.1974) I've had bigger idols than Toure. Tueart, Zabba, Kinkladze, Goater, parlane (I know) to name a few. But non come close in terms of players taking us to the next level and being that big time player/winner. His acheivemejts are listed above.
Sure he's past his best but time and age is a horrible disease, it's not his fault he's just too old now.
If he is number comes up tomorrow I for one will be on my feet giving this City Legend (not said lightly) the ovation he deserves.

Anyone that slates him for this seasons performances just doesn't know football.

I don't get that last line? if he's picked in the starting line up and fails to perform we're supposed to just let it go because he's getting old and has been great in the past?
If him not doing his job contributes to a loss we should just shrug our shoulders and remember the semi final against Utd or his goals against Newcastle?

Apparently.

Bang on the money.
