Yes lads!

When I get optimistic, and looking forward with joy, I seek out the 'sideways passing, walking football, Pep will coach that out of them' posts from my ignored poster list. They just suck that life back out of me and put me on an even keel once more, like back in the Swales days.

It's like there's a collective amnesia of his first 8 years and people just can't get past us being a bit more conservative this season as none of our midfielders could run.

That may be so but he needs to calm down a bit instead of throwing his wonga around like there’s no tomorrow…. there’s a cost of living crisis ffs.
Not for him if we win the title next season!

No, was just highlighting we are spending millions on a rebuild to create a team worse than what we are used to. Thats all.

I would argue that in Haaland, Rodri and Gvardiol, we’ve got three players just as good as any of those in your list from the past.

It’s then about the team you build around them.

No team has a squad of 20 players all at the level of Yaya, David Silva and KDB - least of all us in the peak title winning years.

You have a few consistent game changers at that level, and then a team of talented but admittedly less remarkable players (still more than capable of contributing) built around them.

The problem we’ve had is that those genuine game changing players have been surrounded by an ageing, fatigued team who are all hitting retirement age at exactly the same time - and a few more recent additions who clearly aren’t up to standard.

What we’re building now is the next generation to compliment the elite players we’ve got already - and most of us are excited to see them come in to replace the tired old legs.

The problem is that even if we got everyone who most people want:

J.Garcia
Livramento
Cherki
Reijnders
Rodrigo

Is that amazingly exciting?
Is it KDB, D.Silva, Yaya, Sane standard we once had? Nope.

These players aren’t going to make us match PSG.

All PSG players are quick, fast and technical.

Haaland, Marmoush, Doku won’t close down defenders like they do.
Rodri Reijnders and Nico G are quick around the pitch and as tenacious as Vitinha, Neves and Ruiz.

We all have to face facts that our time of being the best is over for a few years.

This window won’t get us back.
(I can imagine this message won’t impress happy clappers but it’s the truth).
We have those type of big players in Erl, Rodri and others. Don’t forget that we won the league with Delph at left back.

And a raft of injury problems, the worst in ten years.

I don’t think he’s suggesting there’s a specific surprise signing on the way - or that’s not how I read it anyway.

More that plans for the summer are progressing at pace and with real purpose.

Which is much needed, as the job for Viana and Txiki is building the foundations for our next great title-winning team - just like we did back in 2016/17.
This is how I read it. If people are expecting a surprise name, I think they’ll be disappointed. If they’re expecting a series of reliably good signings that will refresh the squad and put us in contention for next season, well, I think that’s what’s being referred to.

We don’t necessarily have to beat PSG though. Most teams people would accept we probably had the best team in Europe for 5/6 years and won one Chsmpions league. The players we’re being linked with would hugely improve our team.

To be fair all I read is that we aren't winning everything this season so we are shit and we are years behind other teams who made me throw my toys out of the pram.

Like you I believe that with a few tidy additions and a new season we can be what we were.

Not sure if it's 'happy clapping' to be excited. We're signing very good players who will keep us competitive. I'm not saying I expect us to win 4 in a row again, or 100 points or the treble, but we will be up there and competing. That's all anyone has a right to hope for.

When we signed Toure he was considered a cast off DM from Guardiola's Barcelona. We never threatened to win the UCL with Toure in the team and he also only had one season where he scored more than 10 league goals. Marmoush just scored 7 in half a season.

When we signed Silva, he'd been playing in the UEFA Cup for the two seasons before.

When we signed KDB, he was famously considered a risk at the price we paid.

And Sane, smh. You're undermining your own point. Sane left and then we had the most successful period in club history ... without him. Likewise Silva.

At the time we signed all these people were saying things like 'oh he's not Kaka/Ronaldinho/Messi', and it's only now after they developed, peaked and won trophies that they're considered all time greats. Rodri struggled for a couple of years, memorably he was dropped for the UCL final in Porto, and later he won the Ballon D'or. All these guys we're signing have the potential to become greats too.
