Yorkshire Cricket Club

Let them without sin cast the first stone

So you would prefer Azeem Rafiq hadn't thrown the stone of unveiling institutional racism ?

Its disappointing that this has emerged, but it doesn't change anything unless you wanted to discredit the messenger and not the message. Ballance and Hoggard admitted they were racist, the Vaughan accusations are backed up by 2 other people and The former chairman wanted to fire Moxon and Arthur because the Yorkshire report showed their racism.

So as was said yesterday when people were bringing up Rafiq calling a coach a wanker, it doesn't matter if he's a good person or not, it matters that people were openly racist for decades at Yorkshire and the club was fine, the ECB was fine with Yorkshire telling them they didn't have a problem, and the PCA was working against the players it was supposed to be representing.

As Rafiq said before this was revealed, its not about the individuals but the organisations. YCCC, ECB and PCA.

No mate what I was trying to infer was that the whole country is fucked with this, there are no winners and it’s what some sections of the media feed on.

Although YCCC treated him appallingly, if it was me I would have moved to another county if it got as bad as he says it did, can't understand why he put up with it, he was a talented cricketer who could have had other counties in for him

Yeah, but is it as easy as that? People say that in domestic abuse cases. Why didn’t she leave him?

I think there is a psychological factor. Sometimes we internalise the abuse, is it me? Do I deserve it? Is it something I’ve done? Perhaps if I’m nicer or try and fit in better, etc. Then there is the damage to self esteem and confidence.

Some people maybe can just walk away, some can’t. But the onus isn’t on the victim, or shouldn’t be. The onus is on the perpetrators, yet we often prefer to blame the victim, in part because they are revealing things we don’t wish to know about, or prefer to pretend would never happen. We resent the victim for forcing us to confront it.

It’s just not cricket is it....

I’ve no idea what the anti Semitic tweet he wrote said but it does go to show when everything we’ve ever done is scrutinised, then we all can be called to account for something we’ve said or done...

That said, I did wonder how long it would be before the establishment hit back....not long it seemed.

Oh yes it does.

For a racist anti-semite like Azeem to accuse others of being racist towards him is exceptionally hypocritical.

What's that I hear? But he said those comments when he was younger? Well surprise surprise, so did the individuals he has accused. They aren't absolved and now neither is he.

Should racism in cricket be investigated? Absolutely. Should it be addressed and eradicated? Absolutely. Should Azeem Rafiq's accounts be given ANY credit or acknowledgement after it has been proven he too was guilty in the exact same behaviour he has accused others of doing to him? Absolutely fucking not.

He's an antisemite who was racist to others and is now crying about receiving racist abuse himself. Goose and gander spring to mind in his case. He deserves no more attention on this subject. He's not the poster boy of addressing racism in sport some are still clinging on to. He's raised an important issue, yes, but after this revelation, his part is the conversation is over. Why should we acknowledge a racists opinion about racism in sport?
