I'm starting to feel gutted about this club and it's values. This might make me sound like a rag, but what players have we got that have grown up in Manchester, grown up with Manchester City football club, and know how much derbies like today mean? United had Scholes, Giggs and neville out there today, albeit Giggs is a welsh illigitimate cnut. But what players can we boast that have the same passion, desire and commitment and to know what it feels to the fans when coming into big games like these? We have Onouha, SWP and Ireland in our squad what probably know what it means to the fans, two of them under the age of 25... one started. I'm all for playing players on form, and A.Johnson and Bellamy have been great for us, but I would of stuck SWP in from the start for either one. It's a risk I'll take, he knows about the Manchester derby, what it holds to the fans. The moral of this post is to say over the tenure of say.. About 10 years? We've never really had a player that has stayed in the first 11 and been an important player for us for at least a decade, and that is something we lack at the moment, a real leader, a leader that knows the club, it's values and loves the fans.

You could argue de Jong, Kompany and Ade played their all today, but when doesn't de Jong and Vinny? Both would play their heart out for any club their at. Ade's a bit subject to inconsistency, and to make it to the top, your going to need your focal points of the team remaining consistent, and be able to replace the inconsistency with quality. Which we don't yet have.. Even after spending 200mil plus.

I just hope Mancini can bring us sucess, I really believe it should still be Hughes in the hot seat, but I'll support any manager managing the blues.

This is probably my first every serious post.. Might cus I'm a bit pissed. But be nice please.

Xx

Quite true there. However we have got many young players right now rising up, look at quite a few away on loan, like weiss and hart?

What about nimely, ibrahim, boyata, cunningham etc. These can turn out to be great in the future for city hopefully ;P

ireland at fault for the goal, so that's what you get when you throw someone who knows what derbys are about in eh?

should have followed evra's run, didn't, so drifted inside, should have followed scholes' run, didn't and we all know what happened then..

and SWP, didn't he try take on evra instead of pass which led to this goal?

Giggs was stolen from our academy
If you believe that. I'm sure it was us who rejected him a proffessional contract and that whiskey nosed fruit snapped him up?

I hope you're right Chris! I just feel we don't have that focal point, that sets examples.

Chelsea have it with Terry.. Although he's had a patchy spell past two seasons he's always putting himself on the line for his club. Same applies with Liverpool with Cara and Gerrard.. That's why I think liverpool will nick 4th, easy run in of games and got players that have been there before. Can't say much for Arsenal, they had Henry, Viera etc. They now have Fabregas coming through, who really is looking the part.

those three muskyqueers wont last forever. but we are shity i mean city even if they played in their 50s theyd kick us all over. sick of it!!!!!

Well nimely was given a chance against burnley true at the time we was winning 5-1. But it shows we are giving the youngsters a chance in proffesional. And he is really highly rated.

errm Nedum ffs?!
If you read, I mentioned Nedum.

Asher, you can't blame one player who's started a handful this season, had health scares etc, I didn't suggest he started, just said we have a few that know what it means to us. I did however suggest that SWP to start, and you blame him getting tackled for our goal when it was the lack of organisation in the defense when under mere pressure that cost us? And both you put at fault are attackers, not there main priority to defend. SWP is there to frighten the opposition and run at them, albeit it didn't pay off.. But what if he beat evra? Different story then isnt it?

You have a point to a degree.

Case in point - Adebayor.

I'm not one who makes a habit of bashing players, but after watching his performance today I can make an exception.

I can except the occasional bad day at the office, as long as a player shows some commitment and desire. But to see Adebayor casually strolling about in such a nonchalant manner in such a significant game, all while misplacing half of his passes and weakly conceding possession at every opportunity usually due to an awful touch, does nothing but really fuck me off.

It really didn't mean anything to him, and ultimately he wasn't prepared to give his all for the cause.

A perfect example of what you're referring to Jay, and it is an issue.

It's always a bit gloom and doom on here when we lose, is'nt it?

At the start of this season, there are few fans who would'nt have taken our current position.

It was hard today, of course it was. I have not been so pissed off with a result in years, but it was a close run game, and they got lucky. It happens.

There is every reason to be positive about City at the moment. We will be better next year, and even better the year after next.

Our time is coming.

I'm just trying to cheer you up, and maybe myself as well, but whatever happens, it's got to be better than the last few years when we were all worrying about relegation!

I'm glad I'm not alone. I thought Ade did well tracking back in areas. I've not watched the match again so can't pinpoint his faults.

It's even worse over in spain, a shit load of players have gone on strike at their clubs, apprently their not getting paid, but ffs, you're footballers, I'd kill for that career, and they seem to take it for granted... There's a 29 point difference between 2nd and 3rd, it's almost predictable every year with Real and Barce battling it out, wengers said that the only reason a player would go to Spain is for the money, the weather and lifestyle, there's no competetive edge. It's like players in the lower part of the table don't want to put that effort in to maybe make a shock. So in some respects we can count ourselves lucky, because our league is as tight as a nuns.

-- April 18th, 2010, 2:13 am --

Very true. Speaking with a rag today, there rub of the green was coming, conceeded that 92nd minute goal from Olic in first leg, lost to Chelsea, through an offside goal, go 3-0 up in second leg, takes a wonder goal from Robben, and argueably their best player (Rafael) in the first half got sent off.. Went to Blackburn and played miserable. Whereas we scored 11 goals in two games and confidence was booming. Just today proved they wanted it more. Swings and roundabouts. Our day will come, we just have to be patient... But for the time being we will moan :P.

That's the problem mate, a lot of the posters who are constantly flapping are the ones who have never experienced the bad times and they don't have that perspective the rest of us do, the likes of Armaan and co.

In other words they've jumped on the bandwagon and have a complete and utter fundamental lack of understanding on what it is to be a blue.

But then again, I suppose that's just one of the pitfalls to success unfortunately.

The OP has a point here. You only have to look at the likes of Barca and Madrid. The Galactico assortment at RM can't hold a candle to the ex academy boys of Barcelona.

I wrote something really long but this will do:

scholes, giggs, beckham. once in a lifetime that three like that come through. it's not happened since. how many didn't. aim for four in and around the team, and be prepared to let them go and try again if it doesn't work. it's all about mentality. we've lacked leadership and stability, the kids have lacked mentors and guidance in the first team. that's what the likes of sylvinho and viera provide, in spades, examples of top class professionals. a couple of years ago it was dunne and hamann having a crafty fag. a couple of years ago it was mid table and the mistakes didn't matter. now the reality is the kids can only succeed if they display the highest levels of commitment and preparation. you cannot dilute that by chasing people who don't respond. it's been hard for the current crop for a number of reasons, but now they have to put all of that to one side and show they have the same drive and focus that a young player AJ seems to have embodied since he came, otherwise it's a waste of everyone's time.

We haven't had a leader for the last 10 years....Richard Dunne?? Who funnily enough was sold by the man that you think should still be our manager!

Anyway, we didn't lose today because they wanted it more, we lost because they have better players, a better team, a better manager and a lot of luck.

Thats exactly where the problem started, SWP needed to play keep ball or go for a freekick, throw in etc, there was no point in trying to beat Evra, there wasn't a City player in the box to try and hit with a cross. But what happens, Evra nicks the ball off him and runs into the space, seconds later its in the back of the net.
