I left a tenner in one once because my fucking phone rang and I got distracted. The guy after me spotted it but left it and while he was getting my attention the machine just took it back again. The money was re-credited within a couple of days.

Taking it from the jaws of the machine is theft because you've basically taken it from their account without permission, and if you have any conscience then bad things will happen if you don't return it. If City lose tomorrow and don't come back on Tuesday then it's all your fault! ;-

Also just imagine how the poor bastard who left it there feels right now... You can ease that pain for them and that's worth way more than £300 of stolen money.

What are your crystal balls telling you to do...?
 
I would hand in in.
Lost my wallet the other year,not a lot of money in but my Scotrail employee pass inside and bank cards.
Reported my loss to the local police station and a few hours later got a phone call that somebody handed it in.
The relief that there are honest people about is a brilliant feeling.
 
Happened to me with £20 once. I've no idea who had been using it as the machine was on the corner and it was busy. I took the money without thinking about it. £300 is a bit different.
