Young Boys (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

some good performances - Rico, Rodri, Alvarez,Bernardo, Ake, Akanji, Dias.

Some not so good - Kovacic especially and Nunes - first time they have played together however but both are not upto speed at present and both need to start adding goals and creativity as they are the replacements for Gundo and we are missing his contribution in these areas. Grealish still getting up to speed due to limited appearances but again he needs to do that quickly.

Overall a comfortable win against an average side in very poor conditions (pitch and weather) - no injures which is an added bonus and a couple of key players rested.
Nonsense about Nunes and Kovacic, they're not there to directly replace Gundogans 8 goals and 4 assists from last season.

Rodri already has as many goals this season as he got last season, so he's on track to help cover Gundogans goals. In fact I'd wager a heavy bet that he'll score more than 8 goals this season, and will get more than 4 assists.

Hoddle was keener on the possible pen for them (the hand ball on Jack), he really is a ****
I can't understand why when the penalty we got which was looked at by Var and given what would of been said about the ref blowing early if var had overturned it, doku had the ball and had a clear chance on goal, surely he should of let the game carry on,.not one word said about that...

Replacing Gundo (who along with Rodri was a lot of the glue that stuck our side together) and no KDB is a HUGE double impact. If we can be top 3 in the league by the end of the year and top of our CL group, hopefully with KDB back we’ll have done really well. Need to negotiate these tricky upcoming fixtures (after the rags of course)

Totally agree. I'm hoping our new signings, Lewis and Foden really step up and grasp the mantle. The chance is there for them. Second in the league and as good as qualified for the next round. We need to keep it up until Kev gets back and we get into a better rhythm.

Think we learned we cant start kovacic AND Nunes. They are both still bedding in and it fucks us up having 2 mids that arent quite on the right wavelength.
It was basically a free hit tonight as YB were that bad, we could pretty much put any XI out and we’d still be very likely to win. If we’re in the mood when they come to ours we could put 7 or 8 past them.

Don’t disagree about Nunes and Kovacic playing together but I’m not sure we should read too much into how we lined up tonight.

Virtually out of the group with three games to spare.

Grealish starting to purr, minutes in legs, and creating lots of chances.

I really feel like we are couple of tweaks away from hitting something resembling third or fourth gear and then it's over for some of these bitches.

Also think Haaland and the team owe someone an absolute spanking sooner rather than later. We seem to score and then doze off a bit. Let's hope it's Sunday.

And the ball comes at you a LOT faster on the fantastic plastic.
Getting on the end of crosses at this level is a game of VERY fine margins.
The pitch made a difference tonight.
Far too much made of the pitch for me, I didn't see much that made it more difficult.

That said I'm not a fan, and it shouldn't be allowed in this competition, though most pitches these days contain quite a lot of plastic alongside the grass for wear purposes.

Here's Pep.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to TNT Sports after the game: "No it was an exceptional game our positional game was really good. We lacked in the first half the physicality of them it led to a little bit more aggression against them in the one-on-one.
"The second half Matheus Nunes helped us win the game, generally they [players] were exceptional. One more game to qualify mathematically and then two more to finish first."
On playing on a 4G surface: "In this pitch it is more difficult, the ball comes in a different shape. But the way we played positionally was really good."
On Erling Haaland worrying about his form: "It is important to have the chances, the people want him to fail.
"I am sorry but this guy will score goals all his life, with the chances he is an incredible threat.
"The players need the ability to find the pass like Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan. But he is going to score until the last day he plays football."
On Rico Lewis and standout players: "He [Rico Lewis] played full-back and comes inside the position he is so intelligent, with Rodri he made an incredible game - all back three were really good.
"The second half Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva when he came on were brilliant - it was a real good game."

A very good result on a tricky wet plastic pitch, Never easy at any level,
But we are talking about a Champions League team having the advantage of playing on it every other week.

Pep and City know the Manchester City derby was up next and truth be told, We did not gamble much with getting a result, but in the end we had enough to win the game on a dodgy pitch, On the 3 or 4 key players in Foden Stones Walker Gvardiol will probably play in the Derby so the rest will keep us fresh,

Weird how so many try to diss our performances, I wonder if they are a brick short of a load or missing their breast milk, or more likely, knobs from other teams invading our forum
It's fucking mental mate.

Absolutely Fuck All wrong with that tonight.

Away Group game in CL with 6 points on the board already after 2 games.
Big game on Sunday and a chance to leave out some important players.
Not to mention a plastic pitch!

Never in danger of losing despite being pegged back by a lovely goal.

Effectively qualified tonight after 3 games, fucking brilliant.
