Young Boys (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

I dread to think but i think you mods wold be giving out thread bans because the abuse Edghill got was hateful, no wonder he had no confidence. At least Nunes or any other player getting slated on here will(probably )never read it.

But some players do look, don't they? Pretty sure Raz did at one point.

I shouted at the TV a couple of times because of Nunes because he made a small number of errors; he also did far more good work though.

He's a relatively young player who has just joined a club that may in some ways be a bit intimidating for a newcomer. He's not had loads of minutes and was playing in a role that he may not be overly familiar with.

He needs time but the rush to judge in some quarters is depressing.

I agree and I'm reserving penning my thoughts about Nunes till he's had a proper run of games. He's doing ok but lot's of improvement to come, hopefully.

I actually think Nunes had a half decent game last night. Got into some very good spaces to receive line-breaking passes. There were times though that he dwelt on the ball a little too long and his final decision making not quite there yet. These could be to do with not having much game time with his colleagues and the sheer volume of information that our new squad players receive from the coaching staff. I'm not worried about him yet as it looks like there's a really good player in there.

BM Has gone early on Nunes. Must be some sort of record even ffs got longer than this. I don't know why some fans have to make shit predictions about their own players?
People are blind. He has been pretty decent up to now, you can see he has something about him from the way he takes the ball and isn't afraid.

That Grealish comment makes me doubt everything else that is said, even though i think some of it.
Its just that he aint upto speed...didnt say he played badly.....but he gets himself into good positions but doesnt score often enough....the whole midfield needs to contibute more in terms of goals.

You honestly sound a bit loony at this point with your agenda against Grealish.
I have zero agenda against Grealish - you sound a little sensative tbh - maybe others opinions arent for you.

All I said is that he needs to get upto speed a bit more....like other players I mentioned. He aint playing at the elvel he was last year and Pep has said the same....maybe he has an agenda against grealish as well come to think of it.

Nonsense about Nunes and Kovacic, they're not there to directly replace Gundogans 8 goals and 4 assists from last season.

Rodri already has as many goals this season as he got last season, so he's on track to help cover Gundogans goals. In fact I'd wager a heavy bet that he'll score more than 8 goals this season, and will get more than 4 assists.
I think you are right on Rodri getting more....

But Kovacic and Nunes are not here just to make up player numbers and just retain possession and move he ball forward. Pep has repeatedly said that the midfielders have to add more goals and assists and that we cannot rely just on Haaland and Alvarez -he said it numerous times last year....he wont have changed his thinking on that.

Nunes hasn't had a chance to play in a settled team yet - and definitely not in our best team, as most of the players haven't yet hit top form, and KDB and Stones have barely been seen. It's fair to say that he hasn't impressed very much, but, just remember that beautiful cross he put in for Haaland's headed goal at the Etihad a month or so ago; clearly there's a good player in there. I also recall that he ran the rags ragged at Old Trafford for Wolves in the 1st game of the season.

Dodgy pitch. Pissing down. Did the business - and everyone ready to go again on Sunday. Plus 2 goals for Big Earl -
what's not to like?

if at first you don't succeed....try try try and try again, and then just twat it with your right foot instead.

Rico and Julian played very well. Jack a lot better. Good result against a pretty mediocre team. Great that Bernie, Julian, John and Phil got a rest prior to Sunday. A draw against Red Bull will see us win the group. Happy days.

Hoping we beat Young Boys and Leipzig drop points away to Red Star and then it's done and dusted.

Red Star possibly, but not Red Bull.

some good performances - Rico, Rodri, Alvarez,Bernardo, Ake, Akanji, Dias.

Some not so good - Kovacic especially and Nunes - first time they have played together however but both are not upto speed at present and both need to start adding goals and creativity as they are the replacements for Gundo and we are missing his contribution in these areas. Grealish still getting up to speed due to limited appearances but again he needs to do that quickly.

Overall a comfortable win against an average side in very poor conditions (pitch and weather) - no injures which is an added bonus and a couple of key players rested.
Grealish was class tbh, thought this was his best game. On another day he would have had a hatrick of assists and nearly scored a brilliant goal as well.
