Young lads you want to see progress to the first team...

All of the mentioned + Harry Bunn, about the only Mancunian who stands even the slightest chance in the next few years.

But like Mourinho, Mancini prefers to buy than persist with youth products so I'm not sure even the exceptionally talented will get much of a chance (at least not until the pressure is off Mancini, if ever). Razak has the best chance as he plays a role we aren't massively overstocked with. Assulin/Roman/Suarez have their work cut out for them now with Nasri and Silva at the club although the latter two are still teenagers so lots of time.
Mancini is buying because we didn't have enough top quality youngsters coming through to give the depth he wants for a PL/CL challenge. City are scouring the world for the most promising 16-18 year olds so they can be drip-fed into the first team squad over the next 3-5 years and so cut down on big money purchases.

Because not one has been given regular game time, even Boyata - a really, really top prospect - was demoted after a single mistake. But I also think if there was less pressure on him he might be willing to give more a chance but the pressure is strong and may not go away for years.

How can you sat that when there are 5-6 mancunians in the under 18's now that have countless england caps, where as Harry Bunn has none.

I said in the next few years, Bunn is at a more advanced stage of his progression compared to the academy team, hence him being promoted to the EDS last season. I mean Evans and Glendon only turned 16 a few months ago, while Bunn is 18 and 19 in three months so I hardly think they will be in first team reckoning any time soon if they have a chance at all.

Youngsters develop with well prepared loan moves (ie. Wilshere to Bolton) and experience at senior level. I'm willing to take a roasting for saying this but Abdul Razak is every bit as good as Tom Cleverley and with some game time, Guidetti can be every bit as useful as Welbeck - and both of them are starting for England's (current) top side.

To be fair I've heard from a mate whose mum cleans the academys kit that when Mancini took over the lads took a shine to him instantly as he introduced himself to the kids as well as the first team unlike Hughes who never even said hello to the young lads.

Also I've heard Mancini watches a few EDS games even when his kid isn't playing or he'll always get a coach to watch the ones he misses...

The thing is with strikers is that to make it at a top club like we are now, you have to be as good as the strikers currently there when you are 18,19.

Bunn will never get near to the level Aguero, Tevez, Dzeko and Balotelli and even though he is a year younger, he is nowhere near Guidetti.

With midfielders and strikers, you can wait until they are 21, 22, just look at Cleverley as an example.

He does, let me clarify - I don't think Mancini is willing to risk many of our extremely promising youths while there is so much pressure on him. I think Boyata's blunder against Arsenal may have strengthened this decision in his mind as it may have cost us the game.

I can understand that but at the same time I hope for a day when Mancini's position is solidified so much that a disappointing season wouldn't see him get his marching orders. Then he could play the best of the EDS and give them a chance to grow with the first team. Worst case scenario being they can't make it but have exposure that will increase their transfer value.

.

boyata is a very good prospect that unfortunally plays in the worst role for a youngster to play in.

CB is a position where every fuckyng mistake cost almost a goal , and a couple of mistakes might burn the youngster forever. so mancini is doing well protecting the guy.

other than boyata it seem to me there isnt much in the "old" accademy products. and the new ones currently are teenagers that have to wait and grow at least a couple of years becouse not even messi saw a lot of first team football until he was 20ish
