I read the article, and to be honest was seriously unimpressed. Sounds like a bitter rag that's all. Didn't tell us anything interesting and put across his version of events pretty lamely I thought.

Didn't particulary like Ball or Franny Lee in the end but this hasn't changed my view of Coton.

You may or may not remember that I asked on here for questions from you to be put to Tony Coton. The first part of the interview with him has now been published and I included everybody's questions off here...(apart from the derogatory/ too-damn-rude ones, sorry!)

Nice one, Emily. Not met you before I also live in Lowton - used to play football some years back and your brother Simon was in the side.

Coincidentally, I was at Bolton Arena yesterday at a networking event and Tony Coton was in the cafe area next to us.

What does he do now? Is he working for Megson?

As if you used to play footy with Simon...lol he played last night for the first time in ages and come round with a sore ankle...irrelevant I know.

Tony is now kind of a sports agent...when I went round there it was transfer deadline day and he was constantly getting faxes through and stuff. He's kind of an agent/ middle man for players. He was helping Bellamy look for a house (?) and advises younger players on how to stay grounded and how to invest their money and stuff. Said though that he misses being directly involved in football as in at a club, and would welcome the right offer. I'm gonna publish the second part of the interview next week, speaks about his disappointment re: England and stuff.

I don't have that much of an opinion on him really. Obv. anybody who crosses the city should know what abuse they will get, even if he was treated harshly by the clueless regime back then, but as a person I found him to be really nice, if not very self-assured. But he is definitely more red than blue in my eyes...

Also interviewed Jeff Whitley a few weeks back and will publish that sometime soon.

I know TC and have spoke to him about City, he reckons he got a rough time from the fans when he first started cos we spent a million on a keeper whou then ousted Andy Dibble who was a fans favourite. So for everyone blaming the managers, the fans also played a big part in the decisions he made later in his career.

anyone who went to the opening game at spurs will remember the away end chanting dibbles name.

What he misses is that there was a strictly limited number of foreign players that could be played in Europe, and United had not played Schmeichel but Walsh instead and payed for it. Ferguson wanted a decent English keeper to give him the option of an extra foriegn outfield player, Coton would have known this. Just before the 96/97 season the rules changed on EU players in European comps. Then they bought Van Der Gouw to be their number 2 and Coton was 3rd choice. Would he have left to Sunderland if he was in the chapions league so Keane, Cantona etc could all play? The change in rules ruined the plan, this is not mentioned at all.
