Flops:
Georgios Samaras - City paid 6m, for the apparantly highly rated youngster. Arsenal were supposed to be interested too. A video on Youtube shows Samaras performing wonders that whet the appetite of the City faithful. Unfortunatly, like a lot of things in life, expectation is better than the reality. The person who filmed that video must have got the wrong person. Samaras seemed to have ability, but his pedestration, casual approach, didn't go down well at Eastlands, when City were struggling at the wrong end of the table. A warning to those who let Youtube scout their players.
Christian Negouai - Keegan described this guy as the most exciting player he had ever signed. Yep, the likes of Alan Shearer and Nicolas Anelka had nothing on this guy. Keegan trys to "Out-Wenger" Arsene Wenger by signing an unknown French player with an exotic name. To cut a long story short, he fails. Miserably.
Steve McManaman - Bought for two purposes: No.1 To reignite the career of a very talented winger, who played for Liverpool and Real Madrid, No.2 To help bring the best out of Robbie Fowler. After a promising debut, it went downhill, and he failed to find the back of the net, during his brief, and largely uneventful spell.
Jo - Alot was expected of the 18m, then club record signing. Whether it was because he never got on with Hughes, or whether it was the high expectations that a record signing gives, or a rather suspect attitude, it never came off for him.
Best:
Shaun Goater - "The Goat" was a key figure in City's climb back to the top. A consistent, reliable goal scorer, and a great ambassador of the club.
Ali Bernarbia - A truely wonderful footballer. Extremely gifted, if only the club signed him when he was younger.
Shaun Wright-Phillips - The ability to beat people with ease, goal scoring, and his powerful shot, makes him one of the best players I've seen at City.
Richard Dunne - Forget the own goals, and the red cards, at his best, he is a rock. If it wasnt for him during the 06/07 season, I am convinced we would have gone down.
