Your Worst City Manager Since You Became A Blue ?

i saw a recent interview with tony book .in it he stated that he made a mistake staying when allison started selling his team towards the end of the 78/79 season,he had been offered the leeds job but turned it down out of loyalty to city ,apparently he was kept out of the loop and had no real power to stop what was going on . the person who i blame for the last thirty years has got to be swales and his obsession with catching united ,in several books i have read the problem began with the clubs mediocre start to the 78 season ,people on the board at the time particualy those that had supported allison in his first spell ,had started to whingh to swales that if we got malc back that would be the final push to greatness, and like a fool swales relented.in later years swales always aknowledged it was the worst mistake of his life and wished he had done somthing to stop what malc was doing in front of his eyes, but thought malc knew what he must be doing . just think though how differnent history might have been if we had still have had barnes and owen and co during the 80.s.

Alan ( i enjoyed that 6nil stuffing from Liverpool) Ball!!

Frank Clark way ahead of Alan Ball. Ged Brannan, Lee Bradbury etc.

I sympathise with Ball as he was appointed quite late in the piece, and as I understand it was more or less forced to see Flitcroft, Quinn. We signed Immel, Symons and Kinky all three days before the first game of the season against Spurs. Had Ball been appointed earlier then perhaps we may not have even been in contention for relegation, given we went 12 games before we won a game.

But for Clark to waste 3 mill on Bradbury is madness, total madness. And for Francis Lee to sanction it even worse!

Well said Nicky D and spot on! Ball is miles behind Clark in terms of ineptitude. As you say his hands were tied with spending (but still signed some good players) and he had a big problem with the players he inherited ie they didn't like being shouted at, poor lambs! After the abysmal start we started to play some good stuff and I still cant believe we went down.

bluestew, think you got the scouse thumpings wrong way round,0-4 on the wednesday night, subbed rosler who threw his boots into crowd, hence the alan ball is a football genius song, think was first time i heard that song,6-0 on the saturday,i was with brother-in-law and mate ( both scouse ) and said i'm going if they score 5,they did and i went to the albert next to the kop and watched end of england playing rugby !
The worst manager, all franny's, ball, neal, coppel, clarke.
Not sure i go for alison 2nd time,i remember the players he bought and sold and of those that left only gary owen i thought was a mistake, players in daley, shite, but swales to blame for price methinks.
But hey that is history the future is OURS and its BLUE

Dont want to fan the flames on this burning issue, such a hot topic. But Alan Ball , end of.

I dont believe anyone over 20 years of age can mention Pearce in this thread.
OK the football under him was p1ss poor but he kept us up when we had to sell any decent player we had because KK had wasted millions on overpaid over the hill injury prone wasters, very nearly bankrupting the club.
