In 46 years watching Gods own club hero's have come and gone.King Colin will always be number one for me, guess it might be an age thing but I still hold him in my minds eye as about the best player I have ever seen in the sky blue but...........
Zabeleta
I love the guy
He plays like a fan wearing the shirt, cannot put it into words but in my heart I believe he is one of us. We are blessed that he plays for Gods own club. Knew from day one he was special and more so as time rolled on.
We need to appreciate what and who he is a lot louder than we do.
The heartbeat of the team, club and fans.
A humble man with the heart of a lion.
Great players I believe fall in love with City and we in turn fall in love with them, Rosler, Goater, Dickoff, but Zabeleta is something special. The best is yet to come from him with us, Captain of the Champion's League winning team would put him equal to King Colin and maybe a touch beyond.
With the rags he would have been recognized by now as a world super star by the jackal media. To me he is, we should start bragging long and loud on one of the finest players to pull on the old sky blue shirt.

Did we lose Kompany as captain? I love Zab, but that's pretty disrespectful to Kompany.

I don't think the OP meant his post as a slight on #4 at all.

I look at them as 1(a) and 1(b). The heart of the club.

To me Kompany is the "statesman" while Zab is the "foot soldier".

Both have their role.

I was lucky enough to win a competition for flights about 4 years ago when we player in Abu Dhabi.

Whilst there the club put on a BBQ with the players at The Emerates Palace. Some of the first team squad were there apart from those playing internationals and some of our youth squad.

I had 1 photo taken that night of me and a bit player. That bit player was even then my favorite and it was Zaba. It's now my wallpaper on my mobile. I'll try and upload it later.

There is a spine of players who give 100% for the team some more naturally gifted than others. Zaba fell/falls into the other category and he plays like the banner 'Today God chose you'.

What summed him up was the Leeds cup match we were 2 or 3 up and he was booked for complaining about a thow-in on half way which was given to Leeds. Passion and blue.

I agree with the op Z

im a zabba man as well,he gives his all and leaves nothing in the dressing room,of course there are better players than him,but if all players gave their all as he does in every match we would be untouchable.

Think Gary Neville got it right when he said that Zabaleta is "more than a right back". And more than just am exceptional one at that.

Saw a guy at work with a Zabaleta shirt on today and thought he is the only name I would put on mine, as a 30-something.

Great descriptions

Thought he was good and worked hard when he came, a bit of a liability in tackling in his first year or so, but since then he has excelled immensely. His attitude is all the same, give 100%, but he's come on as a footballer, tackles much more consistently and cleanly, defends well, attacks well and even grabs a goal now and then.

Also never backs out of any ball he could possibly win, if Nasri adopted that approach and didn't shit out, we'd be a few points better off here and there.

A bargain at £6.45 million and certainly and definitely one of my favourite City players.

As a 40-something I'll admit I did this past year.

The hilarious thing is to think back on how we got him - when Charlie Corluka decided he wanted to go and play with his friend Modric at Spurs, we were a bit affronted because Corluka showed real promise and who was this Zabaleta chap? But it was similar money all round. Corluka's moved on to Lokomotiv Moscow now but I know who got the best of the deal. Was Zabba really a Hughes signing?

He's alright, tries really hard for the team and can't fault him on that front. But there's no room for sentiment in football, and there are better right backs out there.
:D
