I know Willich, lived in the next village over for a bit proper quiet town Krefeld and Neuss nearby have a few pubs but you'd be best mooching to Anrath and jumping a train into Dus mate

Aye there's a direct train which takes about 45 minutes, couple of local pubs are putting minibuses on as well (my old local is and I'll be jumping on one)
