No, the missile will be the same Trident D-5s as the US won't replace their submarines until at least 2040. And you won't find that the Americans have control over our nuclear weapons - because they don't!

Absolutely not. Any Corbynite twaddle about scrapping our deterrent is insanity.

It may not directly deter terrorists but it most certainly will act as a deterrent to any rogue states that might become nuclear armed.

I dont see Putin as a threat but who knows what may follow him.

Global disarmament would be the only way but it aint going to happen and infact is impossible for it to happen.

There is no USSR, all things socialist do tend to go tits up, but if you mean Russia, what would your solution be to
Russian forces threatening this country by conventional means? Their air force and navy are regularly making incursions

You would not free up £20bn, you would free up perhaps a billion a year at best. Defence contracts like this occur over decades and not handfuls of years.

The majority of your billion a year would also be lost indirectly due to the job losses and tax every person and company involved will then no longer pay.

unpopular maybe but I believe we would lose our status if we abandoned the deterrent. We are doing that by downgrading our military already so why pull the plug completely.

If there was unilateral disarmament maybe but I don't believe that is never going to happen... not in my lifetime I would say

£15bn of that (or more if reports are to be believed) will be used to replace the subs, that work will largely be carried out in the north west and create work for thousands for upwards of 15 years - I approve.

As for the need to nuclear weapons, the reality is you need them if you want to stop one of the following;

Astroid strike
Alien invasion
Aggression from Iran/North Korea/tesco's

Why not spend £15bn in in the North West building sustainable power equipment instead. Same number of investment, same number of jobs, future power security, better for the environment ect ect
