FC United Thread

From our point of view, it might be better that the scummy bastards stay in the higher division.

The "glory-hunters" are less likely to attend matches involving a struggling team than they are to a team going well and winning more regularly.

Smaller attendances = less revenue.
Sponsorship deals for playing in the National League so unlikely less revenue by staying up even if attendances were lower

Hopefully the end is nigh – judging by the commentsreproduced below on their message boards after their recent general meeting it could be in the not too distant future.

Fans are reluctant to fork out for next seasons season tickets, saying it will just be flushed into the debt hole rather than investing in the team. Others are saying they will renew but are not throwing more good money after bad in anymore bucket collections and other calls for funding from fans. Fans pockets are drying up and their heads are getting wise that it is all a waste of money.

What is funny on their boards is when someone asks a delicate question and every answers ‘’do not answer in the open forum but in private messages’’ LOL they know I am watching!

‘’The general meeting
If one good thing is to come of that, I hope it is that it acts as a wake up call to all concerned. We are in deep deep doodoo and we need to pull together to get ourselves out of it.’’

‘’It was without question both the best and worst meeting for some time!
For once we have divergent views on how to proceed - Some views, the ones i choose to believe, are grounded in cold hard facts and are realistic about what we can do and how we can do it. The other views are frankly in cloud cuckoo land (aka Leeds) and basically consist of us wishing loads of money to fall on our heads from the magic money trees we all have.
One board member certainly has some urgent questions to answer - That was the most startling outcome from last night for me. How such a glaring conflict of interest went unchecked is bizarre, especially as a director his interests lie with the company first and foremost!.
The CEO’s absence was very telling. His holiday may well have been legitimate, but by golly he has a few questions to answer!
Be under no illusions though, this board is not functional or healthy though. The whole "time out" episode last week was not melodrama or a hissy fit. This board are extremely polarised and antagonistic towards each other - Consistently fighting for themic to have their say and to correct other board members. The chair did a valiant job, one i dont envy!
That isn't a bad thing as it’s a strong wake up call to those who cruise on through and don't question or think about the consequences of their decisions - Specifically waving through vast overspends with no oversight and just letting their actions drift from month to month.
But we are deep in trouble and the sooner people realise this, the better! We can survive and pull through (We are profitable!), but only by doing our jobs correctly. Members question the board, the board question the CEO, the CEO is held to account! The football remains bobbins.’’

‘’I don't know how many different ways and in varying degrees of volume, the precarious financial status has to be put. Last night was not a shock and surprise. The seriousness of it cannot be exaggerated.
We need to co-opt ASAP someone who understands football so that the awful use of funds by the previous manager does not happen again. Not mentioned last night but aligned to the financial debacle was the piss poor pre season approach. All the indicators were there for the coming season. Staly stands out as how not to assess players and TBH it was the same the previous pre season.’’

‘’Sam said that every avenue for raising extra funds has pretty much been exhausted yet a glaringly obvious way to make big bucks is through shirt sponsorship!!! Do supporters want a football club or not?
I implicitly trust two board members, who have every right to feel aggrieved and ventilate their feelings. One other capable board member acknowledged some of the reckless and irresponsible mistakes made which is a start.
The jury is still out for another who turned up late. As for the rest...well...you can't change people who don't see any issues with their actions. Relying on blind faith and ignoring reality.’’

‘’Not suprised or shocked about the situation the club are in. Too many mistakes have been made over the last few years & now it's all came to a head last night. The board are so disunited it not helping the club .We now need everyone to be UNITED from Board, CEO, Tommy, all the paid staff ,players ,volunteers and fans so we can get this special club back on track. Remember the Manchester anthem Don't look back in anger.’’

‘’No shock and on the finances, this isn’t news. What is far more worrying i’s the seeming lack of urgency and crisis management we need to get out of it. Don’t get me wrong, the club is far better run than it was 2 years ago, but the lack of control on spend, the multitude of missed targets and failure to have addressed the loan stock cliff which is only 12 months away. Let alone the MCC loan. All this led by a board and staff who are completely disfunctional and who mostly appear to be sailing through ignoring the seriousness of what is coming. It will be fatal if we don’t get serious right now.
But you know what, it’s doable. What id like to see urgently is the plan to refinance the loan stock in the short term and then a coherent plan to raise the money long term. As JP pointed out, over 5 years and between 2000 members, it’s really not that much extra each. This for example should be in the ST renewals comms next week for a start. Fuck getting an average £50 donation, we need to be aiming at somewhere north of £100, and say it’s because without this sort of level, we might not be here this time next year. Because it’s true. .
Also we need to engage the press. We are well known and have many supporters around the world. How many outside the 200 in that room last night know the situation? Not many I’d wager. Start a campaign. Get talking, leverage the goodwill.
Blitz the local area. Get people to games. It is the easiest way to pay the debt. Nobody knows we exist anymore. Get some guerilla marketing going around the area. Local pubs, bus stops, the gym, schools. We are way too quiet.
It will take leadership, hard decisions, hard work and yes even some positivity to get through this.
Time to get serious folks.’’

‘’Unfortunately it was clearly evident the board are dysfunctional, delusional in part, and lack the skill set to deal with the situation. The lack of urgency is unbelievable. We are a completely different club to twelve years ago when being a willing supporter was enough to get a board position. We need experienced heads to deal with the present situation and co opting is the logical thing to do.
We could never envisage the financial implications of climbing the leagues. We were quietrightly termed " a Sunday League " club at the beginning and it was this mentality that made us unique.
This is no longer the case and we are now in the world of Loan Stock, Community Shares, Grant Funding etc. Its a completely different ball game and we are playing with the same ball as the rest, we are in the world of football financing, like it or not.
Its a sponsors world in sport today and we have to drag ourselves into it, uncomfortable as it might be. Shirt Sponsorship is the norm and maximising your assets is no more than any other team does. We really need to get away from this idea that we are different. We were never in this for profit but we have got to be in it to survive.’’

Should try The Pallet People for sponsorship.

They're fucked as everyone involved from the board to the fans have never had the bottle for anything, hence a shiny new club was born.

Fuck 'em and all involved with them.
