Been the most under rated star for us (by the media, and even many of our own fans), you can have all the stars in the world, but you need a player like him.

I’d say the media have been bang on with how important he is to us...
I’m not talking splerson, Tiss, gonzo et al..

He’s been immense all year, it will also be a joke if he isn’t starting in Russia

Pep on Fernandinho: "Everything we have done so far we couldn’t have done without him. No way. It wouldn’t have been possible on and off the pitch. He is a real captain, always shows up, never stays back. Normally he plays good. He’s a gift for me to have him here at City."

Pep on Fernandinho: "One of the big memories when I’m not manager here at Manchester City will be the pleasure to have been his manager in Manchester. I’m so happy to have him here."

Happy for him. Still doesn't change my opinion that he is not underated, as is often claimed, and can be replaced.

Pep has players he loves, and I don't begrudge him that. But the facts are when Dihno doesn't play we are still as dominant. That's the proof of whether he can be replaced. He is kinda like Aguero, who also is great, but as almost everyone knows, there often isn't a drop off when he doesn't play.

Take out Ederson, Kev, Silva, or Sane and there is a noticeable drop off. Same used to be true of Ota, but I sense with a healthy Kompany and Larporte we might have covered that.

The truth is there is no significant drop off without Dihno. I love the guy, but those are just the facts.

In general i agree with your opinion about Fernandinho, but talking about the bold part, with the current set of players i would want to see not one or two games, but some months without Dinho to take any conclusion.

Midfielders who are not suited to play a defensive role tend to drop in terms of physicality when they need to play as DM many games in a row.

Well said. It's not that he's not great, because he's done so well for us this year.

It should be noted, we've found a way as a team to move on without Touré; the midfielder with arguably the most unique and diverse skillset in PL history. In theory, that makes him the hardest to replace.

True. But thinking ahead to future seasons, not just this season, a different midfielder who is more of a specialist in the DM position could come in and after a season or so of bedding in they could take up the role just as well, in their own unique way. Which is what I believe Dax is trying to point out.

What Pep said Fernandinho was interesting:
"Everything we have done so far we couldn’t have done without him. No way. It wouldn’t have been possible on and off the pitch. He is a real captain, always shows up, never stays back. Normally he plays good. He’s a gift for me to have him here at City."
