According to the Daily Mirror a well known PL British Midfielder on a £40,000 a week contract has been forced to downsize his home after spanking £15M on gambling.

It is probably best not to speculate who, but it just goes to show how easy it is to get in trouble.

You would like to think the clubs have some sort of responsibility to ensure their employees are given some sort of guidance, or maybe even a clause in their contract which precludes them from any kind of gambling activities unless directly sanctioned by the club.

I know players are adults, but when they are earning this kind of money from such an early age it is easy to understand how so many go off the rails.

Gambling is a hidden epidemic in our society, and many more than you can imagine are in deep financial trouble due to gambling, you can lay the blame at them and I don't blame you for thinking that, but having been caught in that spiral it's something I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Best advice, tell someone your very close too. It's hard, but it's the starting point in getting out of it.

Online gambling is wrong, my ex next door neighbour had to sell their house after his wife ran up £35,000 debts on Online Bingo

My mother in law blew over 100k in a year atbthe casino. Even before that year she would blow 2k everytime she went in. She used to take the piss out of me spending 20 only and sometimes making a small profit or breaking even. She would only tell me about the winnings than the losses

Gambling is shit. We used to have to go to the pawn shop on Monday morning to get all our tools back because the degenerate **** of a boss had pawned them all so he could bet on the horses.

Those bingo adverts on TV are rum. They make out like it's some sociable, fun, group activity but it's nothing like that in real life.

Good post Bluehammer. That article is very well written and serves as a warning for those who maybe feel they are just having cheeky bets here and there.
I note your own personal difficulties with this issue and hope you gain the strength to deal wirh them.
Personally, i rarely gamble,on anything...i love the game of football far too much to get bogged down with financial issues.
There is far too much gambling in and around football.Stoke City are owned by bet 365...thats just one example of the doorways to corruption which have ,imo, spoilt the beautiful game....but thats just me.
Modern football now carries the absurd scenarios where you celebrate a goal, but the blue behind you is angry cos its just messed up his corrrect score bet
I find myself having footy debates/arguments with people who, because they have money on a team or whatever..cannot see the other viewpoint.
Gambling also squeezes the life out of true football talk..the game, the skills..the ball control, the ...its just all about who won who scored etc
Football is in a mess right now,and the real worry is that the culture of gambling by mobile/tablet/ etc is being enshrined on young people....an addiction for life.not good.not good at all.
