Stevan Jovetic had played seasons solid before we decided to take a gamble on him. Look how that turned out.

Yet we all knew about Jovetic and his injury history.

So far Gundogan had:

ONE hamstring injury, his spinal/back problem which kept him out for a little more than a year, one neck injury and one stretched ligament according to transfermarkt, and a handful of random injuries keeping him for one match here and there.

Not exactly a sick note, and nothing to prove that he has anything which hunt him, like a recurring muscle injury etc.

There are no cast ironed guarantees Gudogan's back can hold out.

Well so far it did this season, so i don't see why that is a problem per se.

It's not a risk worth taking.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, if we indeed went for him, then i wouldn't be bothered, as i genuinely believe he's stilla top player/prospect, but there are players out there i'd rather see us go after.

The midfield problem does need addressing but we are better off in steering clear of players who have just comeback from a long term injury and is playing in a struggling side.

I haven't seen him at all this season, anyone who has, how is comparing to his form pre back injury?

I'd probably still have him regardless, but it does make you wonder would a fit and firing Gundogan allow his team to be lower mid-table, especially with Reus still with him.
Hasn't performed nowhere near as well as he did in 2012/13 been a shadow of that tbh.

Thats a shame, looked a real player that season.
Exactly, that Madrid game away - he ran the show and it was widely expected he'd be the next Galactico.

I'd take Gundogan and two other midfielders. It's amazing... no that's the wrong word... it's utterly fookin' scandalous the state our midfield is in after so much money spent (too much of it on forwards). Yaya has been great but it's always been clear he probably has a limited shelf life so preparations should have been made. Fernandinho I have no complaints about at all, I think he is a fantastic player who should go nowhere. Fernando has been a major disappointment, the result of only allocating a small % of our transfer budget on a midfielder rather than use more to sign someone better. And Lampard is a stop-gap who has had a few good moments but can't play 90 minutes. The richest club in the world with midfield options of aging Yaya/Fernandinho/Fernando/Lampard (+ I guess Milner but no manager rates him there even though he rates himself) is absurd.

So Gundogan at £15m? Yeah, I'd take that 'gamble' (at worst you get a really good squad player) but according to reports in Germany he's likely to go to our neighbours. Gundogan hasn't reached his former best yet, but there have been enough signs of him getting there, like his excellent performance against Schalke a couple of months back.

If you think back to when valdes done his knee, there was a bit of a fuss because the barca club doctor wasn't present, reason being,he was "apparently" in Germany at the time looking at gundogan and his medical records.
If this is true, why didn't barca follow up on the transfer?........I'd steer clear IMO.

tbh I'm not too picky at this point. I could name 10 midfielders of various qualities and think they'd upgrade our slow, stale, easily overrun midfield. In fact Gundogan wouldn't even be my top 3, but being realistic we can't buy three £40m midfielders. I'd have Koke before Gundogan but Gundogan would be a good alternative. A midfield four of Pogba/Koke or Gundogan or Verratti/Fernandinho/young English player (Ward-Prowse) would suit me.
