I've seen both play and both are as gifted, in my opinion. Maradonna carried Argentina to THAT World Cup and Argentinians
will always have more of an affinity to Maradonna, because of his World Cup exploits. It's almost impossible to compare
footballers of that era to now, as we saw a lot less games back then. How many shit or good games did you see Maradonna have for
Napoli ? To judge purely on his World Cup exploits, doesn't really tell the whole story.

Maradona is a **** of the highest order, on that basis Messi is the better, however if he really wanted to prove it then he should come here and see if he can hack it at Stoke in the middle of the winter when its pissing down blowing and sleeting.

Is there a need for Messi in the team though? He would just be vanity signing for the owners, why spend £300 million on a player that is 30? much better options elsewhere and would mean a younger player being kept out of the team

It has been stated many times that he would be a cost neutral signing.

Even if Messi turned out to be the single most unnecessarily expensive transfer in the history of football where we'd do nothing but lose money he'd still be worth it for what he can do on the pitch.

Jeez that was actually touching. Most players would want nothing to do with the kid, and you couldn't blame them.

Fucking hell mate do me a favour. He's got 118 caps and 58 goals, their all time top goalscorer. They've been to a copa America and world cup final with him. Are those not achievementS?

Rooney is our top goalscorer but that doesn't make him the best English player.....far from it! Messi has played in an unbelievable talented Argentinian side that have failed to win any major silverware which is a massive underachievement. Not doubting Messi's club and goal scoring records, what a player, but fallen short at international level compared to some of the World Cup greats!

Maradona won the World Cup in a poor team which shows just how good he was, big time player.

He was on coke mate, which is a performance enhancing drug.

To describe that Argentina side as unbelievably talented when their starting centre back was Martin Demichelis is blind.

To describe losing 1-0 to Germany in the World Cup final and losing on penalties to Chile in the Copa America final as "a massive underachievement" is moronic. The difference between "massive underachievement" and "all time greatest player" to you is the difference of three goals.

If we talking drugs, Messi has been on growth hormone since an early teenager, probs why he hardly ever gets injured?! No evidence of Maradona being on coke in 86?

Zanetti, Ayala, Samuel, Heinz, zabeleta, riquelme, mascherano, veron, Di Maria, saviola, aguerro, Higuan just to name a few. Not sure how many international major tournaments he played in (5 or 6?) and can't remember him dominating any? As I said you would have expected them to beat Chile in the Copa America (which is his highlight!)

Not saying Messi is not unbelievable, one of the greatest, just saying he has underachieved at international level. Just like Gerard, lampard, scholes etc ...they will never be held in the same fondness as the 66 team or even Gazza.

One of the world's greatest footballers if he wanted to come to Gods only club it is an absolute no brainer and those against it need to give their heads a wobble.
