Saying anyone that becomes a better person is a role model is not a reasoned argument.
Saying somebody is a role model doesn't necessarily mean that you agree with everything they've ever done or even who they are. You can see MLK as a role model due to his civil rights work without condoning or accepting his infidelity. I think Trump should be a role model to many politicians in how he utilised social media and found a gap in the market in terms of energising the Republican base, but that doesn't mean all politicians should build a wall.
It's okay to admire something about people without having to admire everything about them.
