Chelsea lose 3-2 to Burnley in the first game of the season, having had two red cards
McNulty: Conte might not last until the end of the season

Liverpool lose 5-0 to Man City having had one red card
McNulty: The loss has to be put into context


why anyone listens to what the press say is beyond me,they say one thing one minute then the complete opposite the next.

To be fair to Matt Law. He said it was a straight red card and there should be no debate about that. Matt Law went on to say that it says more about Liverpool than it does about City. He was in fact saying that they have more defensive problems than we have.
Rod Draper - the guy with the squeaky voice said straight red no debate.
John Cross said by the letter of the law it was a red but it was wrong. Mane had his eyes on the ball. He wasn't being malicious. Liverpool are going to have to do without his services for 3 matches as he's been their best player.
As for Neil Ashton - he's just a dick.
Not a lot of sympathy for out keeper.
 
It's fucking laughable that it's still being questioned that it was a red card!?? Not one person has thought or said it was intentional but FFS it's a red card all day every day!

Also, if he'd known his onions (which he is handsomely paid to so do), at the very least, he'd have known that Milner got a very warm reception when he first came back to the Etihad with Liverpool, and would have joined the dots, even if he didn't know the narrative behind the booing.
 
I'm sure we all remember Vinny's red card v the rags 10 minutes into an FA Cup tie a few years ago. He went in two footed, but not maliciously, on Nani, took the ball clean as a whistle and Nani had no problem with it. Shrek then lobbied the ref (Foy IIRC) to send Vinny off and he duly obliged. Just about every pundit said it was a red card.

Fast forward to yesterday. Ederson (6ft 2") jumps high to head the ball clear and Sane (5ft 9") has both feet well off the ground and is totally out of control when he 6 studs and boots Ederson in the head. Red card all day long but the likes of Tyler, Neville, Cascarino and the MOTD muppets can't see it.

It's a sad indictment of the continued lowering of standards, that he had no idea of the story. To then compound that by actually speaking, provides further evidence of his culpability in this regard, were any further evidence needed.

Yes but very grudgingly "by the letter of the law". They all said there's no problem going in for a challenge like that and they'd all have done it in a similar situation during their playing days. In view of the latter comment and the caveat of "the letter of the law" it's clear what they really thought IMO.

Its really quite strange.How any right minded person think that the challenge is anything than a red is beyond me. A kung fu kick in Eddies face.
