I think that is the new North Stand superimposed on top of the existing South Stand.

It is the new NS over the previously consented scheme, which was the same as the South Stand. HC is right, as the existing support (the smaller of the two in blue) is the same, and the top where the cables come in is right in the vip area, as I mentioned in the previous posts. The angle of it is sharper as well, and it looks like some of the main column tie would also cut into the new seating, which now sits further back than previous proposal, South stand.

Personally I hope you’re right though. Maybe they’d be able to support the OG net by linking it up to the new roof supports instead.

I think (don't ask me why :( ) that they have to build around them in order to have the steelwork to put the new supports on before removing the old stanchions. Or at least that makes sense to me.

If they are being removed then I’m very intrigued as to how they’ll transfer the load from the current support on the tower, to a new support on the steel frame. That’s not a simple task.

That's what I take from it all.

It is the removing them once it is all intertwined that I am intrigued to see and a little bit giddy about. Even the likes of revisiting the ground works to grub up the foundations, around the base of the new steel, for example. From what I can see in the photos, they have put the subbase in already for screeding, which they will have to re-do parts of once these are out, and the base of them takes up a fair area. And then presumably screed all in one go.

I totally get HC's reluctance to believe that's what they are doing, and why it would make sense to keep them given the complexity of it. But I don't see them being kept within the new layout, think it looks like they made the decision to just bite that bullet for the layout they wanted.

I think these images are actually showing how the old roof supports will sit in the upgraded stand.

The cables would mostly go over the top of the levels (like at the South Stand end) and pass through the front support columns (currently being built) rather than through all the stand. The smaller ground cable supports would rest where the access tunnels are as in the first pic and the 2 big supports would sit inside the stand. Unless there’s something in those diagrams specially saying they’re being removed of course.

The below is from the Construction Method Statement submitted with the planning application. Essentially they've got to do a hell of a lot of temporary works to deal with the complexity of the roof system. They build a steel support to transfer the weight of the existing roof in order to remove the cables. Then they transfer to a permanent structure in order to then remove the existing roof and allow them to construct the new one.

North Stand (NS) – The structure associated with the NS predominantly consists of a structural steel frame precast terrace bowl, composite metal deck and concrete floors. There is significant complexity around the construction of the new roof, with associated restraint / support from the construction of two new core structures, which also facilitate the ‘cable support’ system for the new roof. The temporary support of the existing roof, installation of the new roof, and removal of the existing roof, requires significant temporary works. These are currently under development based around an agreed sequence of erection as developed with the structural engineering team, main contractor, and specialist subcontractor.

It's quite clear. Albeit, from reading the document (produced by Laing O'Rourke) it's basically a high level summary of what a structural engineer had recommended.

Would be nice to know a bit more detail but if nothing else, it shows just how difficult it is to take on these works - and possibly why further expansion to the East/CB stands have been stated as incredibly difficult by the CFG COO! We've got owners who are used to building new, not regenerating! They must choke when they see how much money is going down the drain on temporary works!

Won’t the East and West stand roofs fall down?

Could it not mean that the current North stand roof simply has to be separated from the cable net system first to prevent any impact on it when they dismantle it. I would think they’d need to build supports at the ends of each side stand before removing the cable but would be happy to be proven wrong,

The cable net will stay but will be supported in a new way going off that and the images.



You can see the cable net in the same position on both expansions, unless the plan has changed and now it will go of course.
