We might have made an enquiry some time ago and found the asking price too much to pay. Leicester then came to us and proposed a deal which made us think that they were willing to play ball. On further negotiation it may have been found that they were trying to take the piss so we walked away.
I don't know if that is what happened but it would explain the contradiction.
It would, and Stone specifically saying they came to us 'with a proposal that included a player' sounds like he knows something to me.

Our transfer policy fucking stinks. City think they can tap players up all day long then buy the player on our terms. Twice now arsenal and Leicester have laughed at us and told us to fuck off
You mean the one that has brought us kdb sane, jesus, etc etc. show at least some appreciation jeez

We don't give in to clubs holding us to ransom.

What planet are city on? Tapping up a player a day before deadline then wanting to do it on our terms, plus leaving Leicester with a right mess on their hands after mahrez handed in a transfer request.
Don't forget it was his 2nd transfer request - in the last 12 months........

Seems to have been established that that isn't what happened.

Why should we care about any mess Leicester are stuck with? They've denied this player a move multiple times and seem to have been unwilling to live up to their promises to him. They've made their own bed afaic

It is bad and we do like to make players force their way out as it gives us leverage on transfer fees.

I'm sure you'd be the same if Madrid were low balling us for Jesus on dead line day and he refused to play for us tonight.

Do we really want a mardy shit house who doesn't turn up for training just because he doesn't get his own way and doesn't bother telling anyone?
Whatever happens in life you turn up.
Dodged a bullet.
