Rule question

If a keeper takes a goal kick and the ball enters his own net without leaving the area it is a retake not a corner. The ball has not been in play.

Correct, it appears. This also answers the "wind blowing the ball in" question raised earlier.

"A goal may be scored directly from a goal kick, but only against the opposing team; if the ball directly enters the kicker’s goal a corner kick is awarded to the opponents if the ball left the penalty area."

"The ball is in play when it leaves the penalty area."
"If the ball does not leave the penalty area or is touched by a player before it leaves the penalty area the kick is retaken."

The rule I like is that you cannot score an own goal direct from a free kick.
It’s a corner that is awarded.

I bet that gets a lot of people.
