Southampton post match thread

The scary thing is, how many of the numerous players people are saying need to be gone in the summer are out of contract? I can't see too many clubs cueing up to spend big money on transfers and the inevitable huge wages of the majority of that side today? Getting rid of them might not be as easy as just saying it.
Listen lads, you only had to pick up the phone, we could have sorted you with some," Claudios little helpers". Keep it to yersens though

But that's what driving so many us crazy ... he DOESN'T play them in similar positions. Our strongest, most effective formation all season has been 4231 ... so today he picks a weaker team but then lines them up in a 442, the formation that has punished us every time he has used it, even when we are at full strength. It's just perverse, obstinate, stubborn stupidity. And it's not like it's a surprise. All season long this forum has been full of people screaming blue murder over three things: 1) do NOT play 442, particularly if it's compounded by the selection of Bony; 2) do NOT play Yaya in a defensive two; and 3) do NOT play MDM as one of our central defenders. It's like he can't help himself.
Is it don't do any of those things or don't do them all together?

I agree with you mate. For Pep to be a success he would've needed the foundations of a solid team. At Barca he had Xavi Iniesta Puyol Messi, at Bayern Muller Lewandowski Lahm Neur etc. At city we don't really have that calibur of players so who knows how this pep experiment will turn out.

Yep, that's about it .

He's not a miracle worker.

3 seasons he will be off somewhere else.

Any who think he will be beyond that need to put there storybooks away.

He will spend two of those seasons correcting the squad and buying his own players.

We may have a better 2nd X1 than most, if not all other in the league, but our 2nd XI is still not good enough to beat most first teams in this is league, and therein lies the problem - we aren't playing everybody else's 2nd X1.

I'd go so far as to say with just 3 of our best XI missing, we become mid table quality.

The way things are going, next season could see us emulating Chelsea this season.

Our 2nd X1 should be be built upon the talent in the academy, youngsters keen to progress and with a point to prove. Unfortunately our 2nd X1 currently revolves around players approaching the end of their careers and who no longer have the desire and hunger to succeed in a physically competitive premier league.

I can't honestly believe for one minute that Pellegrini would be prioritising the CL over the PL without the agreement of the management and, presumably then, the owner. No, that isn't the problem. The problem is that he and Begiristain haven't been able to manage the squad over three years so that he has options when he wants to rest the first choice team. Ageing, poor signings, no youth, poor motivation of second string it seems have all contributed to some God awful performances when matches come thick and fast. Yes, tactics and then some injuries too.

It's a big gamble prioritising CL this campaign over securing CL football for next year. We will see if it's the right choice soon enough.
