We live in an age of hyperbole and extremes.
Remember when people were ‘fans of' or 'enthusiastic about' something? Now you can be nothing less than 'passionate' or you’re really not serious.
Remember when people were 'ambitious' or were 'hoping to achieve' something , now you have to 'own it' , ‘ nail it' ,or 'smash it'!
This is just reflected in (or engendered by) the popular media - Sterling ( or for that matter Rashford ,or young Winks at spuds) can’t just be a serious prospect for improving England’s potential, they have to be 'saviours' or 'the future of'.
When these so-called journalists start berating top clubs (such as...well, us)for not giving young English players game time, they should maybe look a little closer to home at the unwarranted pressure they heap on these boys when they do.
They aren’t really bothered about sacrificing these kids’ careers on the altar of their own hyperbole in pursuit of revenues.
