The Ben Stokes incident.

Mmm. I wonder how many people would be calling for a year ban if it was a key City player who had done this. Not many I suspect.

The legal process will go ahead, and he'll have to answer to that. What is going to be notable is the usual ECB double standards when dealing with a key player or one they don't want any more, where they find all sorts of excuses to get rid of them, usually by leaking it publicly.

Trouble for Stokes is the person he floors is not the one swinging the bottle and appears to be trying to be the peacemaker.

Gerrard got away with a drunken brawl I suspect in this case there will be community service and a slapped wrist.

Like I have said he was in the casino at 4am after the game in Manchester, that is at least 2 times he has been pissed up in the early hours within a week.

Having never attended a large scale cricket match,i will bow to your knowledge/experience on the matter.

I was simply going off the images of the 'barmy army' types,i was thinking(wrongly,it appears) they would lap this up.

Cheers

Don't get me wrong, they'll be plenty of that type of fan that will laud him for it but they'll be plenty of others that want him dropped, as you can see by this thread.

There's no way he will be going to Australia. Having seen the video he can't even claim self defence or that he was provoked and reacted instinctively. He has at least 4 or 5 goes at the bloke and the punch where he finally floors him is thrown as the guy has his hands up in a calming gesture and after he was backing away for a good 5 seconds.

Pretty much this. It's only a "fight" for the first few seconds, for the vast majority of the scuffle he is the only one trying to throw punches and he's the one keeping it going by going after them while they try and back away.

He'll get community service as that's what usually happens, which isn't really a punishment for a sportsmen as they do all that sort of thing for the publicity anyway. He'll play cricket with some kids and disabled people for a few hours a week for the next year and that will be that.

They can't do without him. He'll go, and be given a public dressing down, has learned his lesson, very ashamed etc. If he wasn't essential, they'd drop him. But he is, so they won't.
