West Ham Olympic Stadium

One of the best things West Ham have going for them is their ground which is one of the few to retain some character. If it was down to a ballot of their fans and not a businesswoman and two porn barons, I doubt they'd be trying to move to the OS in the first place.

It is also the worst thing going for them in the fact they cant develop it.
Like Everton at Goodison and City at Maine Road.....
If you had asked me and many other fans I suspect, we wouldnt have wanted to leave Maine Road. I still didnt want to leave Maine Road. But I also apppreciate what we have become because we did move from Maine Road..... if that makes sense....?

Let's just assume Spuds get the lease on the next Bid
They don't want the Olympic Stadium; they want the land that it sits on. Their plan was to secure the rights to the site and demolish the stadium, replacing it with a bespoke football one. On that basis, I can't see them even submitting a bid as they won't be able to do any of that as mere tennants.

All their bitching and moaning has achieved is to (potentially) get West Ham a much better deal than they had originally agreed.

West Ham should get Stratford. The whole area has been improved recently with a new Shopping Complex so big that it has its own post code.

West Ham will get it still. The reason it went tits up is they wanted 80m from Newham council instead of the 50m.

The club are 110m in debt.

Both sets of fans are against moving stadium apart from Orient. Which you can understand

The plan was never to demolish the stadium. Sensationalist tabloids gave off the impression that we were going to demolish it.

so what were you going to do with it?

Spurs wanted to get rid of the running track and dig deeper, kind of like the COMS. 85% of the materials would have been reused.

I don't know why rival fans get pissy about removing a track, since when has oval tracks been good for atmosphere?

That's the reason why Spurs don't want to move in because Seb Coe and his friends want the track to remain. They somehow think 60,000 fans want to turn up to watch people running every month. They can't even fill other athletic stadiums.

It's dead in the water anyway for Spurs and no one really cares.

West Ham are 110m in debt, they were getting 50m from Newham council to redevelop the stadium but West Ham were asking for an extra 40m on top from the taxpayer.

They'll probably get a 125 year lease at 2m quid a year. It'll take them years to pay off their 200m debt and I can't honestly see ticket prices being cheaper than Upton Park. If anything Hammers fans lose out too in a soulless stadium. It's a shame they cannot redevelop their stadium instead to add an extra 10-15k fans

Also people like to ignore the facts that Spurs were going to redevelop Crystal Palace and foot all the bills themselves.

Oh yeah, forgot about doing up Crystal Palace.

the whole thing is a cock up as usual this should of been sorted out first before they built it i've often wondered why circa 2000 why the govenment didn't get fa, rfu and ukathletics to join together and build a all sing nd dancing stadium with retractable seating, roof nd movable pitch probably would cost a bomb but wembley twickenham and this stadium aren't exacty cheap

As for Leyton Orient and their issues, one thing that seems obvious to me but doesn't appear to have ever been on the agenda - why couldn't both West Ham and Leyton Orient share the Olympic Stadium?
They probably could - and if they're renting, why would the leaseholder not want to 'double' the rental income?

It's this daft English thing about needing to own your own property I suppose.
