The light just means that the random number generator has started. Do you feel lucky ?It's been on 2 days so does that mean limp mode is now unlikely?
Seriously might be nothing, if you get a slight misfire it can sometimes cause it to come on. As others have said code reader is the way to go. You can get cheap one which works over Bluetooth and you can use your phone to read the codes. Quite a few apps out there that are pretty good and allow you to reset it and make sense of the numbers the ECU spits out.

Just bought one of the Bluetooth ones, only work and back twice till it arrives. Seemed to be running a little less smooth today but paranoia could be the issue with that.

I remember reading about an Austin Maestro sold at auction recently with something absurd like 40 miles on the clock.

Not a huge problem, unless you go to the dealer with £500 and a large jar of lube! Most just need cleaning, 15 minutes with some carb cleaner and a toothbrush (tip; use the wifes) will sort it. Alternatively you can just blank them off altogether.
wifes car - we got it and within the day the light came on. Dealer replaced EGR under warranty. Couple of years later on again and we had to do it - £300 ouch ! Came on again 18months later took it to a local garage and the guy took it off and soaked it for the day in a can of petrol then cleaned it - all absolutely fine for £30 all in.
made the £300 hurt even more but taught me to avoid main dealers as 1st port of call....

Torque Pro is the one I have used in the past which seems to be well maintained and is easy to use.
