Yaya Toure: I will definitely stay - and Man City will be stronger next year

In an exclusive interview with MEN Sport Yaya Toure confirms his plans to stay at Manchester City and win more silverware.

Yaya Toure has confirmed he will stay at Manchester City - and believes the club’s transfer plans this summer will see them rise to the challenge of Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Ivorian is also convinced he can rediscover his finest form - and revealed his determination to triumph in the Champions League.

Toure’s comments come after City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak told him that the club would not consider selling him amid interest from Inter Milan.

In those talks he was also informed of Manuel Pellegrini’s intention to make world class additions to his squad, following a trophyless campaign.

Toure said: “I will definitely stay. The fans don’t have to be worried.

“My target this year is to try to do everything possible to make this team improve well and I am sure with my experience, maybe I hope, with the players coming in a couple of weeks, a couple of months, definitely it is going to be a strong City next year.”

City’s first target is to reclaim the title from Chelsea - but Toure says the ultimate goal is success in Europe.

“It is one of my big targets because City have been in the shadow of United for so long,” he said. “Sometimes their fans are coming back, saying we are the top because we have already won the Champions League.

“What I want for the fans is the Champions League. I will do everything that’s possible.”

Toure has endured a frustrating season, in which he’s failed reproduce his best form.

He points to an exhausting 12 months in which he played in the World Cup and African Cup of Nations. There was also the personal turmoil of losing his brother, Ibrahim, to cancer.

Now he is convinced he will come back refreshed after the summer.

“I am looking at next season and I will start working again,” he said. “Because last season there has been a lot of football for me. There were difficult moments as well emotionally and physically. Now is a good time to rest and next season you are going to see the top one.”

The 32-year-old has two years to run on his contract, but has hinted he could stay beyond that.

“Football is like that,” he said. “You get a contract, but after maybe you can continue doing something.

“For me the target is to continue helping the club to the end.

“Those things, money can’t buy.”

I would be very surprised if City sold Sergio. Cannot see it as whatever they paid for Bale they wouldneed to add as a minimum another £20 million.
