Willy Caballero - 2016/17 performances

Made some great, vital saves. His kicking was a bit iffy which I assume is why Pep was having a word with him after the game. Deservedly our number 1.

Most assured goalkeeping performance of the season. Looked comfortable in possession, didn't panic at all and in addition made some decent saves, one of which came just after we scored the 2nd and didn't allow them back into the game. Today was the kind of performance we need from a City number 1, we don't need someone pulling off worldie after worldie because the opposition in this league will hardly ever have enough of the ball to pepper our goal under Pep.

His saves were brilliant. I don't get how significant it is for keepers to be part of the play for the sake of it and that skill is more important that saving. Today it shows our team is good enough to win without having a keeper who does extraordinary passes. We still managed 2 goals and created many chances. For me, we don't need a keeper good with his feet. But a keeper good with stopping shots? Every team needs them.

Waited patiently for a few years for a fair crack of the whip which he seems to have taken with both hands.
I'm made up for the lad and hope his good run continues. I'd imagine Bravo will be off loaded at the end of the season so hopefully we can sign a decent young keeper which will probably put willy back on the bench, but he seems happy enough at City and would still be a great backup for a year or so.

To be fair Karen, you have a good point, but although Willy is in good form, we need a better more consistent keeper. Pickford must of caught Pep's eye today, he looks a good prospect.
A younger keeper as no 2,none ready to be no 1,i'm hoping bravo gets his shit together otherwise what was the point

since he's been back in the team those mistakes have gone out of his game that were there at the beginning of the season. The def looked comfortable passing the ball around between themselves today, still think we over play in the back personally but no issues there today whatsoever.

I don't think he is top tier, maybe one or two grades down. We should be looking for a world class keeper who has a proven track record, although having said that I thought we bought that person in the summer when we signed Hologram from Barca..

I'll be happily proved wrong on Bravo. I was proved wrong on Yaya not playing again for us, and Yaya despite him slowing down, Is really taking to the challenge and proving people wrong. Difference with Yaya and Bravo though Is Yaya Is proven In this league, and whilst Bravo looked good behind a good well drilled defence for Barca, his nervousness and lack of confidence in this league, has been cruelly exposed. I hope he proves us doubters wrong, but I really can't see It. He needs to go back to the slower paced La Liga that he is accustomed to IMO.

No way Pickford is coming to City unless to be third choice behind Gunn. Everton or pool or swamp more likely. I reiterate that if Willy snuffs a chance of going to the World Cup, he will need to be playing at a club where he is guaranteed no 1 at start of season. Hopefully that's at City but we will see

Unless you have ITK info, you and I can merely speculate on which keeper we will sign. Maybe Gunn will be long term, I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised If Pickford Is playing for us next season. He has been linked to us and Pep must of had an eye on him today.

Pickford isn't THAT good, it's the English-ness that gets people overexcited- there's been nothing to suggest he could do a better job here than Caballero. If nobody obvious becomes available in the summer then I'd suggest giving Caballero the #1 shirt, promoting Gunn to #13, letting Bravo go and buying someone cheap, experienced and homegrown on low wages to be the third choice. I'd consider Paul Robinson.

Robinson is totally past it but the rest you are spot on. IF I a top notch keeper comes available then yes but that apart I'd keep willy. he'd done a great job.
