Raheem Sterling - 2016/17 performances

Oviedo is winger who has been converted to LB.

Raheem faced a tough challenge to run past him and he couldnt.

Its easier to run past defender than wingers, and thats why he had a poor game yesterday by his standard.

Oviedo's strengths as a full back were still very much on the attack. I think Raheem just had a slightly off game compared to his recent form.

The exciting thing is that he's now reaching a level where he still contributes game changing moments when he has one of those games.

They'd take it away from him for that, really? That's bullshit.

Don't think it is bullshit as without the deflection the cross wouldve been Navas-like.

I can accept Sterling facing a better defender. It's the player and manager to come up with an alternative. But it happens. Also you can see he is still learning to make to right decisions at times, but he is gaining cleverness.

Yet I do think Sterling was poor yesterday because of his first touch. That to me is simply a matter of concentration. It happens. Sterling rightfully build some credit for having a wonderful season up until now. He can easily be fantastic the next match as young players, esp. wingers, are pretty inconsistent.

Can't possibly know that for sure mate. When shots are hit on target but deflected they still count as the player that took the shot goal even though it could go from being a simple save to the keeper being flat footed because of the deflection.

Sooner or later will come a tipping point for English football fans just like happened with(hopefully) all the Blues who made their mind up that he would never make it far too early, where they eventually concede that they are happy admit he's proved them totally wrong and just enjoy his progress as a player for club and country.

Think he could do with a rest against Stoke. Been phenomenal this year. Was a bit off yesterday, get him fresh for Boro & Monaco

"Seemingly the customary way of praising the German is to denigrate the chap on the other wing"

This is true and it boils my piss.

Really? I think the way Sané is attacking, moving with pace behind the defence line with and without the ball and his shot efficiency is quite different from Raheem. That's just an honest view of Sané's ability. Nothing to do with Raz.

Why should that affect Sterling in any way? Or even denigrate. I can't see that.

Sterling has to improve a lot of aspects in his game. Technical ability, confidence, end product have to get better. For example the way Robben and Costa are cutting inside and score is a nice option to have.

That said Sterling is very important for City, he is working his ass off and he makes loads of assists. Still he has to improve a lot.

Pep: "Raz can be better. Believe me, esp. in the simple things. He makes mistakes in the simple, easy things and when he improves that…wow!"

Pep: "He's playing a lot of games but it’s true about how many goals, chances and fouls he creates. He has a lot of things to improve."
