And here we go again.... The fucking idiots poking their heads out of their hiding holes as soon as Sterling doesn't individually win us a game. Might I remind you that without Sterling we wouldn't have even fucking scored last night. This season has been a huge improvement from him, been one of our most important players and Pep has him as one of the first names on the team sheet for a reason.

Spot on. I'd go as far to say he was only behind Stones as our MOTM, he was a constant threat throughout.

Agreed. However he needs to improve hisdecision making and finishing. See him bury them in training all the time. Hopefully more time with Pep will install the confidence.

He has 6 goals and 6 assists in the league, he's hardly been ripping up trees. That's fewer assists than Matt Phillips and equal to Nemanja Matic and Dimitri Payet. And less than half the goals of Dele Alli.
He's had a direct involvement in 29 of our goals this season. From 37 appearances.

Imagine that would be the highest at the club this season by a fair distance.

And a fair way ahead of Matt Phillips (14 from 26), Payet (11 from 29), Matic (8 from 29) and Alli (24 from 38).

Sorry, are we forgetting who took the shot that led to the to the fucking goal? Jesus, one wrong and this thread is up in arms. He's not to blame for last night.

Watch the games. Sterling should have around double those assists, 4 penalties won and just recently he wasn't even given the assist for the opener vs Sunderland or Aguero's goal vs Bournmouth which went down as an OG.

All these stats backing up his assists, and direct involvement in some goals, make him out to be the best player we have, sadly for those who think that he is,are wrong because he is not,I must admit he's an easy target to criticise,I have done plenty times this season, but he doesn't fill me with much confidence really, cutting back, mis placed passes,I keep reading he will be this and he will be that in the future,I wait with bated breath

What the stats do is counter a lot of the criticisms made against him.

No final ball. Can't shoot. Can't pass. Doesnt take on his man. All bollocks.

He's not the finished product. Not many are at 22. But I can't shake the feeling that he's judged by a different standard to everyone else. Not one of our players performed last night, but as iften seems to be the case it's this thread that seems to be the busiest.

The different standard is most obvious when seeing certain people's different reactions to him and Sané.

It's glass half empty with Sterling and half full with Sané - Sterling can do 7/10 things right and all you hear is talk about the 3 poor decisions, Sané can do 3/10 things correctly and they'll rave about the 3.

I had thought at one point earlier in the season that he'd changed the opinions of those who had so confidently predicted he was shit and always would be, but I must have forgotten that this is bluemoon - they've just begrudgingly realised they have to wait until he makes any slight mistake to go back to slating him.

That cross at the end summed him up, just when you want a bit of class and composure. He's good v shit but not much else. Hopefully he can put an end to the laughable performances v Liverpool on Sunday too, he doesn't handle that game well either.

Spot on, it was Sane who had me yelling at the TV last night more than Sterling.

Here are the stats from Transfer Mrkt

As someone else said earlier that is 9 goals and 20 assists all comps (using the wider definition from Transfer Mrkt).

The assists figure is higher than any other Premier League player and Sterling is only 2nd to Neymar from the big European Leagues. It is quite literally impossible to achieve those numbers unless you are a top, top player.

Get with the agenda, man - that will never compensate for him single-handedly losing the Euros for England.

Much like Navas, I don't think he ever will.

I think, for a 22 year old, Sterling is a pretty average player on the wider world stage. It's like he's got cotton wool in his skull at times. Some of his passing and shooting is just dreadful.

tbf hes got one of the highest assists records in europe hasn't he ?. you can't be average to do that hes been one of our best this season.

The cross didnt sum him up. His performances over the course of the season sum him up.

Not perfect (he does seem to be the only player that isnt allowed a bad cross, or pass or shot) but very impressive.

His best performances have been in the champions league so I don't know how he gets hit with the only good against shit tag either.

It does seem to me that when the team plays poorly that some players get a free pass while all the criticism is lumped in one thread.

Sane gives me a lot more confidence that he can win a game. Sterling is good, but think we could upgrade on him if the right player is available
